webfact
Picture courtesy of Amarin TV In a tragic event in Thailand, a 39-year-old man named Phongsak tragically lost his life to extreme heat in his zinc-clad home. The incident happened on May 3 in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province. Phongsak's home, a one-door and windowless structure, was primarily made with zinc sheets, leading it to become excessively hot. Following his collapse, relatives immediately contacted emergency services. Despite the immediate response from Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers and local rescuers who tried resuscitation efforts, Phongsak did not survive. His death was certified as a result of coronary artery and hepatic sclerosis. Phongsak’s sister, Thiramanas, described the distressing pre-death moments. She mentioned that Phongsak requested water spray from his neighbor for temporary relief. However, his condition worsened quickly, with him gasping for breath and expressing concerns of a heart failure. Phongsak's solitary housing circumstances, his underlying conditions of an enlarged heart and pulmonary edema, along with his unwillingness to open his door for ventilation, all contributed to this tragic event. His death brings attention to the grave risks of inadequate living conditions and extreme heat exposure. -- 2024-05-06 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

While it does sort of do this, this case is really more about the danger of ignored mental health issues.

Peterphuket
I think it is a big problem especially with older people who depend on a fan. Just got the message through that an uncle of my gf died because of the heat. Had already passed do 80 and when I asked if there was an air conditioner there in the house, the answer was negative. His daughter was doing some shopping and on her return she match he was sleeping but alas, he had passed away.

rattlesnake
"Phongsak's solitary housing circumstances, his underlying conditions of an enlarged heart and pulmonary edema, along with his unwillingness to open his door for ventilation, all contributed to this tragic event." So he did not die because of the heat but of heart disease at the young age of 39. Lots of people have an enlarged heart and other cardiac damage these days.
PETERTHEEATER
Zinc sheets or galvanised steel sheet? Either way, an oven in the sun.
