Huge markup on imported foods. Why?
MAJOR problem with Thailand imho. Seems cheap overall but VERY low quality - applies to EVERYTHING (apart from the obvious 💋) it seems with very few exceptions. If you want a comparable quality of life with the west it's VERY expensive though it's easy for us to rationalise it away. -

Feel sorry for AN posters who bought electric
Yep, the typical electric car owner has the personality of Rain Man. They memorise all the green power statistics but not the real cost. Without the subsidies the whole industry would be toast. I did not yet see an independent signed off audit of on the electric cars and I suspect that the these cars pollute the same or more than petrol power cars. Electric cars lost out 100 years ago. It is ridiculous that tax payers are subsidising these cars for the rich. -

Taking Thai Baht out of Thailand
I don't think anyone would risk using them anymore....have you seen the reviews? seems like a big scam. For a large amount I would never risk cash and possible issues with customs.....go through your bank.....bangkok bank process my international payments despite many people saying you need to fall in a certain category e.g. have a work permit etc -

Spreaders of Conspiracy Theories: Unmasking the Motivations Behind the Lies
that's the point. people mix all sorts of silly conspiracies with real ones, so people think all conspiracies are nonsense. some conspiracies are silly nonsense. but some conspiracies that seem crazy are true. -

Huge markup on imported foods. Why?
Maxwell changed their ingredients slightly about 2006, just before we moved to Thailand. We switched to Nescafe. -

Elderly Swiss man busted with gun at Phuket Airport
I guess it was leaving as he was caught at Gate 81. That’s where I’m missing the boat & left wondering… - (Travelling from Phuket) Gun found in check-in luggage, flagged & they pick him up at the gate. - (Travelling from Phuket) Gun found in carry on at at security check point at the gate, but isn’t the security check point much earlier than the gate area ? - (Travelling from elsewhere) Gun flagged in checked bagged bag by x-ray screening, picked up passengers on arrival at gate 81 (though that makes less sense ‘cos they should have spotted the gun & pulled the bag & passenger off the flight before departure) So…. I’m guessing you guys are right a the gun was caught on departure - but it’s not sure if it was in checked in or hand carry. -

Macron Warns EU Could Face Collapse Without Urgent Reforms
Article under paywall, so I cannot read the parts of the article you did not mention. BTW, I am not claiming the whole economy is military. My claim is that the growth (the extra 3% GDP), is mainly fuelled by military expenses. Oh, and there was no growth between 2012 and 2021, under 'normal' conditions (no extensive war) -

Why is the MAGA movement so susceptible to crazy conspiracy theories?
I can niether confirm or deny both of those questions/theories/accusations. However (later after considerable pressure to actually answer a simple question) I doubt the first and highly suspect the second. -

Urgent Request for Information re Death of British Citizen in Thailand
I'm truly amazed. We received a soft copy of the Consular Letter via email by 4 PM today. The hard copy is available to be picked up at the embassy with only a two hour notice so that reception can be notified of our arrival. I've rarely seen government respond so swiftly. When I sent the required documentation to the UK embassy I told my contact that if she needed anything else to feel free to ask me. I thought it wise to mention that we have certified copies of the father's, the daughter's and the mother's birth certificates. That is further hard evidence establishing the daughter as the true daughter of the father. Here is what my embassy contact wrote in reply: If you could send the birth certificates in your own time, that would be much appreciated. It is not needed for the consular letter, but it will be better to provide the confirmation of the relationship between <father> and <daughter>. So, if anyone would dare question the legitimacy of the daughter as the legitimate daughter then the birth certificates establish that with certainty. The father is listed as the father on daughter's birth certificate.
