For now, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of both locals and visitors in this bustling part of Patong.

didn't think the safety of locals was an issue there

five Thai male suspects. CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying the individuals involved in the incident.

what normal tourist/expat is out in a well known nightspot area at 4.40am

What has that got to do with being stabbed by five men? Surely the tourist is entitled to be wherever he likes whenever he likes on vacation. I can think of plenty of reasons why a foreigner might do an all nighter. Get sick of reading comments suggesting the English guy is at fault.

Naaa us Aussies don't hate on British. Hell a great part of the population are of British heratage. Britain itself being a failed state may provide more insight.

Exanple please?

Perhaps it’s you who needs to explain how a person can walk around in Thailand and do nothing to anyone and get stabbed. Because that never happens. You need tdo swap who needs to explain themselves

The life of a farang is worth nothing here.

But the pride of a Thai.....

bob.

Thai culture is the best.

we should all follow their lead.

honestly. no kidding.

bob.

And you even add your first name at the end of your drivel.

Oh well.

We must have quite a different definition of a civilized culture.

And if you tried a sarcasm, you are not very good at it...

Not bob

Victim blaming are we?

So are you saying that if you are out at 4.40 am it’s your fault ? The world is open 24 hours a day for free open minded people .

The Aussie lads I knock around with never stop slagging Australia off, especially the ones that are going to have to go back for 2 years to qualify for their pension.

Really! Your having a laugh.? The majority of young tourists (under the age of 50). What a sheltered life you must have had.

I don't have a dog in this fight but last time I checked there's no law about being out at 4:30 AM.

Why doesn't the headline read "Five THAIS arrested in Patong stabbing of British man"?

Every other nationality is normally mentioned in the headlines- especially if they are "farangs"!

An alcoholic looking for trouble perhaps.

And perhaps not? Perhaps just a sober farang on his own seen as a fair target for these alcoholic animals?

He was out on his own at 4.40 am - is that enough?

I find it hard to imagine people sneaking up on him and stabbing him. There must have been an argument during which he used the usual for letter words. I suppose it will come out which is the son of a policeman.

"There must have been an argument during which he used the usual for (four?)letter words."

Why MUST there have been?

Unlikely to confess? I am always surprised at the easy confessions here for crimes committed.

You've been here long enough to know that once the police take you to court  you ARE guilty - even if you're not,  and pleading guilty gets a 50% reduction in your sentence!

The fact they haven’t named and shamed the Brit suggests he may not have initiated the fracas.

He was named in the original report of the incident, Charlie Faulkner.
