I have an offer for a new (sliding) gate made of a stainless steel frame with aluminium panels

These are the specs:

  • Frame: Stainless steel (grade 304), Square Hollow Section (SHS) 1.5 mm thickness
  • Panels: Aluminium 1.0 mm, power-coated

Guide price (with installation) 5,900 per sqm. Discounted price for buying two gates: 4,700 per sqm.

My questions:

  1. Is that a reasonable price for that type of steel?
  2. Is the thickness of the SHS 304 steel sufficient for this type construction (which is basically a rectangular 1.5m x 2.8 m)?

Last quote i had was 4500 sqm all stainless. Mixing the materials will cause galvanic corrosion where they join.

Thanks! Did they mention the thickness of the steel?
