If it gets checked or not, I don't know, but obviously they could potentially find out if you are currently in the country or not. Otherwise they might notice at the airport when you re-enter on the DTV visa, that it was issued at a time when you were supposed to be in Thailand. Better to go to Laos, Cambodia or Vietnam and apply there.

The money does not have to be in a Thai bank account. I sent them a 6 month statement of my brokerage account (with associated IBAN number) with plenty of funds throughout the entire period, but I don't think there is a golden rule for it. It might depend on the overall strength/quality of your applicaiton, the amount of money, etc. My application was probably overall quite strong, in the sense that I've been a proven self-employed freelancer for 15 years, I have more than enough funds in the account, etc.

Thanks, yeah my finances are probably going to let me down, as I dont hold that amount of cash, but can pool it from a few different accounts, but will have to show a balance statement at end of month or wait.

I wonder how sophisticated immigration is, I dont really think they would stop be once I have the visa coming in on it, but maybe they would have me in the system somewhere when I apply, so u might be right to take the trip to vietnam to save the trouble.

Im wanting to apply for the  new DTV using the Thai E-visa site, would love to have some questions answered by anyone whos been successful in getting this visa using the site.

First question, seeing as we dont need to do anything in person with the thai e-visa site, is there anyway that they know if you apply for this whilst your already in Thailand? Whats stopping people from doing this, if once approved I just need to print off the documentation, cant I essentially apply from anywhere ? Or do they have checks in place to ensure you are outside of Thailand?

With the 500k THB proof, is there a period it needs to be in the account for? Can I just transfer across the money get a statement and transfer it out or they need it in there for a certain amount of time? Also can it be in an account in your home country's currency, ie Im applying for it through the Sydney Thai consulate, can you show an Australian bank with the required amount in AUD or does it need to be in a Thai bank account?

Can’t help with cooking class questions but I applied online.

For location:

The electronic application form shows that it needs to be completed from country of residence. It asks for current location, date of travel, point of entry and flight number. You don’t have to upload evidence of these except a recent utility bill as proof of residence in current location. You could potentially complete the details fraudulently but there are reports of people being asked to supply additional documents - if caught you’d likely lose the application fee and could have problems with future visa applications.

For bank account:

You can show a bank account with AUD or other currency. It doesn’t have to be in a Thai bank. I don’t believe the money has to have been in the account for any set period of time.

Thanks . Yeah I think maybe the best bet will just be to out of country maybe in Vietnman incase there are any issues.

My question is now, if applying in person in Vietnam, can you still show a balance in your home countries bank account?

I received DTV visa.

Was asked for all pages of passport photo, contract, and bank statement.

I already have Bangkok bank account, but would be glad to move to Kasikorn or SCB. Will try to go to them after news updates about possibility to open bank account with this visa

Keep us all updated after you apply through the Sydney Thai consulate as there's a number of us that will also be applying through them in the future. Being in Oz, there's two options, the Sydney consulate for only people living in NSW and the Canberra Embassy for everyone else not in NSW.

You don't need to upload a utility bill, you can also upload your drivers licence or bank statement as proof of location: https://canberra.thaiembassy.org/destination-thailand-visa-dtv/

I think Im just going to go to Vietnam and apply from Hanoi, seems to be the best bet as losing the 13k THB application fee for getting found out of not being in aus when applying is not a trade Im going to make. Will keep the forum updated on any issues I have or any things I find out to make getting the visa easier. Hope this visa sticks around!

Just an employment contract, no salary statements were requested? So the money in the bank you've showed could have come from other sources..

Which Embassy/Consulate did you use to submit your application?

Thank you!

How to apply for DTV based in Thailand? Usually one would apply in their home country or via e-visa-system, right?

But I do not have any documents showing I am currently registered or residing there. The reason is, when I moved to Thailand 11 years ago I delisted from the local registry. How to do ?

Just the usual flight to KL and try to apply at the embassy with all required documents such as proof of remote work, bank statement, etc.

Last time I was at the KL embassy for another type of visa extension and the DTV just started, I heard many conversations with the staff and applicants "Why do you not apply in your home country" and they were sent away.....

KL is one of the worst embassies in the region. Avoid, avoid, avoid. They will make up impossible rules on the spot, reject for no reason, force you to go to your own embassy to verify unverifiable things, etc.

Just research a little and go to a reasonable embassy. Vientiane, HCMC, Phnom Penh, Manila are all alright.

There was a picture of an announcement by the consulate in Phnom Penh in a previous post of @Tim K  (see below). From October 8, they will start processing visas through the e-visa platform. I know for a fact that the same is true for Ankara, starting on the very same day. It looks like all (or almost all) consulates will now be connected to the e-visa system.

I wonder how this will affect people who want to apply for a visa at one of the consulates that were previously known to be somewhat lenient when it comes to the residency requirement (being a citizen or a resident of the country(ies) in which the consulate operates).

Actually there are reports from Russians that HKT/BKK IOs ask them:
- show bank statements

- Did you buy this? Who's your agent. How much did you pay?
- What you really spent one week at Phnom Penh??
- Where do you live, what you do, where you get money from?

😞
I don't know about agents but ppl just show them what and how they did apply so eventually they are let in. Receipt from the Embassy thay you've paid 10000thb|300-400$usd really helps.

but I remember that my NON-O from Penang was looked with same suspicion at Sadao border with Malaysia in 2018.
Did you buy this??  Do you live in Chiang Mai ?
- Of course not I live in Phuket.
Why does visa have remark Ch. M. ??
- Embassy at Penang did this I don't know.
Thai wife had to step in..

So with the transition to e-visa application at most embassies of neighboring countries I am wondering if they still accept your application even if not apply from your origin (passport) country ??

It would make things very difficult and costly. Example: American who lived for years in Thailand and  currently staying here would have to fly back to the states for e-visa application and to fulfill the requirements of matching flight data and submit a proof of residence.

Also interested how this pans out after 8 October... No more DTV or other visa applications in person???

This (residency requirement) could be really only Thailand-related and one of the things a western foreigner will never understand....

I have been and still travelling often and rarely heard of such requirements. I lost count of how many visas I applied for other countries while not being in my home country or had to show proof I am residing there

Unless the visa is specifically "only available" in your home country (METV, Non-O-A), the eVisa system should allow you to apply somewhere else where you are at the time - just not while in Thailand.

IMHO you don't have to be a citizen of Cambodia to apply for e-visa, just show them hotel bill with address in Cambodia and your name on it.
Should be like that, the only difference should be to not submit docs in person, but by electronic means. And the fee I guess would be just 340$ or 10000THB.

Submitted at P-P on Wednesday 28 Aug

Documents:
image.png.0d66c6f047084669b735efd037d9134e.png
1) form
note I did not choose any type of visa, cause the form is old and doesn't have DTV option.
Purpose of visit left empty too.
I thought they would help me to choose the correct option but nobody cared. It is not tourist visa  but again no other viable option was there.
2) photo

3) printed e-statement from thai kasikorn bank (6 months), via KPlus app

4) receipt dated 3 Aug from small dental clinic for some dental work, with a note
that next dental appointment will be 21 Sep
making a mold for dentures and next 21 Oct fitting the freshly made dentures
wet stamp and signed by cashier. I do really need the dentures, all was real.

image.jpeg.36d563ecedf2327098cf507f92d8d4b4.jpeg

5) Tax slip for clinic license for current year 2567 (printed in color)

Except #4 everything else was not signed or stamped

These I gave to a man sitting in the booth outside. He does basic pre-check of your docs,
staples papers together and gives you queue number. Booth opens at 8-45.

Next you go next door to the main office. Wait until 9-00 when they start accepting applications.

6) I was asked to provide a copy of first passport page,
which I immediately pulled out of my backpack. Meaning that pre-check is very very basic.

7) 400$, problem was that my 4 x 100$ bills were old (2006 series) and rejected!

I was told to go across the street to the BIDC bank and change my old bills to new ones.
They did help me at the bank, went back, paid, and got visa slip.

That was it!

Waited until 4 Sep 15-00, went in, showed my slip, got my passport
with a shiny new "feel-like-a-Boss" visa)

Thai remark says "passport will expire 18.04.2029"
like it does not say this on the main page already, oh well.

5 Sep flew to DMK, somewhat young lady at passport control had a bit of a problem and started to call older man for help
( I assume saw my ED from 2022,
then 2 stamps in a row Apr-Jul Jul-Sep and thought I was a trouble maker)
and then found my DTV I presume and said aah it's ok now.

couple more minutes of head scratching and the older man helped her to get the 6-month stamp with a correct date.
DONE, no questions whatsoever.
After that I said in thai ( I waited for this type of visa for 7 years, and today finally got it, yay!
She gave me a thumbs up and said "your passport will expire before the visa").

Hey Tim,

Thanks so much for this info. My question is with your dentist appointment, did you have to ask the dental office to print out that tax slip for clinical license and get them to sign this? Ive read about people just booking online with bkk hospital and not going through with it just booking appointment. I think your way seems safer, did you do this on your own thinking or was this info requested?

Yes. It might be a good idea to print a screenshot of the current exchange rate (AUD-THB in your case), for example from Bangkok Bank's website, and to use that exchange rate to calculate your ending balance in baht for them for their convenience.

Good idea, cheers. Ive just booked the flight to Hanoi but trying to book a time for visa application and realised they got no times at all in November, surely thats not right:

They had it at reception in a glass case and they offered me to take a photo if I wanted to so I did. And then I just printed it myself in color.
It was my thought to have it just in case.

Is it possible to apply for a DTV with an approximate date of entry but not actually do the 1st entry on that date, but actually do the 1st entry at a later stage considering the visa is valid for 5 years?

Does the DTV have an "Enter before date" like other visas in the past, which were usually 3 months after the visa has been issued?
