In my opinion, this US "help with crime" is not about fighting organized crime, this is about spying on China and gaining favor with Thai government to try to pivot it away from a China alliance or friendship.

This kind of "cooperation" (US detects criminals operating in Thailand and asks the Thais to bust them) has been going on for decades, long before animosity with China heated up.

Fighting international crimes transcends all politics. Politicians come and go but international crime busters will stay put.

How does this spy on China?

Here is good news about breaking up a criminal gang yet you think it is part of a conspiracy.

You need to stop watching stupid YouTube videos and start watching real news channels.

You are the sort of person who is fooled by the likes of trump because you can't think for yourself.

Wrong

Offenses were committed against American citizens. The FBI then becomes aware, investigates, traces, tracks then cooperates and participates with foreign law enforcement that the offenders are dealt with and caught. Probably most of the investigation work was done by the US authorities.

We now know why delays being experienced by some to transfer money to Thailand as the banks conduct additional checks.

"Long arm of US law enforcement reaches out with the help of the Royal Thai Police to smash international online fraudsters targeting US citizens from Thailand and transferring huge amounts of pilfered funds to the kingdom."

An excellent result. Perhaps execution would be an appropriate punishment. It would help to prevent them from ever doing this again.

That Dutch ex-cannabis cafe owner got stuck with 50 years and without breaking any laws

in Thailand. These gangsters only get 10 years? Sounds like they are pretty friendly

with the locals already. Should be out in a few months their watches

and sports cars returned to them, or some of them anyway, just as soon as this blows over.

How did they manage to deploy this malware in the victims' smart phones and tablets?

I have installed Dr. Web antivirus on my wife's and daughter's smartphones.

They install malware in huge companies, hospitals, government services. Getting into Joe Blogs iPhone should be effortless.

These criminals need to be found , everyone should be aware of the risks and the outcome of an attack. My local hospital in Cannes was closed down due to such an attack lately for a week, ruining critical operations for sick people. Just a small example., Stop them.

Not at all unusual for such things to be hidden in innocuous places. Same thing with phone scammers in India operating out of small office buildings. But you're the cybercrime expert, what do we know?

Did you see yesterday’s news of the Euro printing press operation that was busted in Naples ? A huge concern with millions of euros stacked , and sold to anyone. 5 € for a 50€ note, which were impeccable copies, except where the 50 is, it should reflect light when turned which the real note does and the copy doesnt. The water mark  etc were perfect. The “ press “ was on the main market street in Naples, a plain steel  door on ground level. 5 Frenchman and one other arrested for the moment.,

check your euros.

Thai Police and FBI Dismantle Major Global Cyber Crime Syndicate

In a significant victory against cybercrime, Thai police, in collaboration with the FBI, have dismantled an international cybercrime syndicate, culminating in the arrest of the group's mastermind in Singapore and the seizure of over a billion baht's worth of assets in Thailand.

The operation, spearheaded by Central Investigation Bureau chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Jirabap Bhuridej following a request from FBI attaché Mr. Mike Chai, targeted Mr. Wang Yunhe, a Chinese national identified as the ringleader.

This syndicate had been spreading a malware known as 911 S5, which hacked the IP addresses of 19 million computers across 190 countries, leading to extensive financial damage.

The criminals exploited this malware to commit a range of offences. They hacked into computers in the United States to fraudulently apply for welfare assistance, siphoning the approved funds into their accounts without the knowledge of the actual applicants.

Additionally, they engaged in stealing cryptocurrency, executing ransomware attacks against major organisations, and peddling child pornography. Bomb threats were also made to incite widespread fear.

The international crackdown saw coordinated efforts from multiple countries, including Thailand and Singapore. The cybercriminals laundered millions of dollars, purchasing real estate and other assets in several countries, with Thailand being a significant target.

Among the seized assets in Thailand were 7.5 million baht in various currencies, luxury watches valued over 30 million baht, jewellery worth over 50 million baht, a BMW X7 M50d SUV, several land and condominium title deeds, bank accounts, and a flash drive containing critical encryption data and passwords.

These items were confiscated during raids on a house in Bang Lamung district and three condominiums in Na Jomtien, Chonburi province.

Authorities continue to investigate companies established by this syndicate in Thailand. The coordinated efforts highlight the crucial international cooperation required to combat sophisticated cybercrime operations effectively.

Remember the case of Victor Bout ?
Another case of Americans arresting foreign nationals in other foreign countries.

American ATF agents posing as Columbian rebels set up a meeting with Bout in Thailand back in 2008. When he showed up he was arrested and put in jail. Thailand claimed it was for entering the country "illegally" (wrong visa or something) but that was the excuse to hold him until the US could extradite him.
Even though he hadn't actually committed any crimes in Thailand - or the USA. It was basically entrapment.
(Thailand initially denied the American's extradition request. American agents with help from Thai police tried to smuggle Bout to the airport and put him on a plane to the USA but were caught. Bout was eventually extradited despite lots of pressure from Russia to release him.)

(Bout was swapped to Russia in a Dec 2022 prisoner exchange where the drug-smuggling basketball player everyone felt so sorry for because she was a "woman of colour" and "LGBTQ" and "forced to play basketball in Russia because the WNBA doesn't pay enough".)

It's funny how some countries can make laws and then arrest foreign nationals - in other foreign countries - for breaking those laws.

US laws, sanctions, embargoes and influence and manipulations extends around the worldwhen it involves US citizens, institution or their money. The world is basically controlled by the US.

But here is why the US gets involved, crimes are being committed against US citizens and Institutions and some of it is due to investigating billions of dollars of fraud comitted during the covid19 pandemic

The ones who have still not been caught should be very worried, the US is still coming after them.

"A 35-year-old Chinese man has been arrested in Singapore, and millions of dollars in cars, watches and real estate have been seized as part of a blockbuster raid on a global cyber criminal network that defrauded the US government of billions of dollars, the Justice Department said Wednesday.

Court records did not list an attorney for Wang. Leatherman said the US government was pursuing his extradition to the US and that an investigation into other potential suspects was ongoing.

Wang and other alleged members of the criminal network used virtual private networking (VPN) to spread their malicious code, infecting 19 million different IP addresses worldwide, including over 600,000 in the US, according to prosecutors. IP addresses are the unique numbers that correspond to individual devices on the internet"

CHONBURI: -- In an unprecedented global crackdown, a leading cybercrime organisation, described as the world's most sophisticated hacking group, has been successfully dismantled. This victory comes as a result of a tireless combined operation between Thai and US security services.

Officers searched a target house in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province, and three condominium rooms in Na Jomtien. They found 7.5 million baht in cash, both Thai and foreign currencies, 13 luxury watches including 3 AUDEMARS PIGUET watches worth over 30 million baht, 23 pieces of jewelry worth over 50 million baht.

In addition, there was a black BMW X7 M50d, Thai land title deeds and land purchase agreements, condominium deeds, bank accounts of Mr. Wang Yunhe and Spicy Code company, data storage devices, flash drives containing encryption key data and encryption passwords.

The operation orchestrated by the FBI and Thailand's Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), resulted in the arrest of three top-ranking members of the international cybercrime syndicate. The fallout of the arrests, unlike any seen before, is set to have a significant impact on global cybercrime activities.

The syndicate had been operating extensive illegal activities involving unauthorised system access, theft of confidential information, and cryptocurrency fraud across borders, wreaking havoc on the global digital economy. The arrested individuals are now facing serious charges under the Computer Crimes Act, which could equate to a decade-long sentence for each charge.

Police General Manu Mekmok, Commissioner of Thailand's TCSD, acknowledged the role of constant vigilance and rapid response required in global digital security, stating, "Technology criminals nowadays are equipped with advanced knowledge and resources. Our mission is to be two steps ahead of them."

Supported by the broader international community, this coop breaks new ground in the fight against cybercrime, shedding light on the effectiveness of international collaboration. These arrests are not just wins for Thailand and the US; they signify a victory for global digital securities, acting as a strong deterrent against similar criminal activities. By cutting off the head of this cybercrime serpent, authorities hope to significantly slow the growth and spread of similar syndicates.

The collaboration came from a request by the US to combat cybercriminal activities, focusing on Chinese national Wang Yunhe and his gang. They are accused of committing national-level online fraud, damaging protected computer systems, committing electronic communications fraud and money laundering opeartions in the US.

It's by time that those kind of cyber criminals gets arrested, convicted and sent to prison for a very very long time. Been a victim myself of a sophisticated scam and the authorities  silent ignorance of any complaint less than $100,000,00.
