Popular Post webfact Posted June 2 Popular Post Posted June 2 Pattaya City Mayor Poramet Ngampichet has declared immediate measures following an alarming rise in parasailing accidents in the popular tourist destination. At a pivotal meeting held on Friday, May 31, Mayor Ngampichet convened with city officials and tourist police to discuss stricter regulations for parasailing operators in Pattaya. With activities ranging from jet skiing and sunset photography to banana boat rides, watersports are a significant draw for tourists visiting Pattaya Beach. Yet, the increasing number of parasailing mishaps has raised significant safety concerns. Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyapong Ensarn, leader of Pattaya Tourist Police, stressed the necessity for comprehensive regulatory measures during the meeting. “Our priority is to establish rigorous guidelines to ensure visitor safety,” said Colonel Ensarn. The discussion highlighted the importance of involving key agencies to develop and enforce these vital safety protocols effectively. One major proposal is to require parasailing operators to clearly inform participants about new safety guidelines and ensure insurance coverage for all activities. This initiative aims to provide tourists with reassurance that they are protected while engaging in Pattaya’s adventurous water sports. In another development, the Thai government's effort to enhance tourism faces scrutiny. A Chinese tourist who broke her leg while parasailing in Phuket criticised local service providers for prioritising profit over safety. She shared her harrowing experience in a video on Douyin, drawing attention to safety standards in Thai tourist services. In separate news, four French divers stranded overnight on a Sattahip island in Chon Buri were safely rescued on May 2. Their boat had drifted away from its mooring during a dive near Koh Manwichai. The move by Mayor Ngampichet to tighten safety regulations seeks not only to curtail accidents but also to rebuild trust among tourists, ensuring that Pattaya remains a safe and enjoyable destination for all. I have an idea that might just help. Why do the relevant key agencies get off their collective lazy backsides, leave the comfort of the a/c office, and actually do some enforcing. That is assuming, of course, that they know what the relevant safety protocols are in the first place. I mean, if your average BIB does not have any clue of the laws they are supposed to uphold, what chance for a bunch of jumped up civil servants in matching uniforms with airforce wings. 4
ChrisY1 Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Would they even have a safety standard for these things...I doubt there would be any regulations......they just hope nothing happens! The media don't cover this sport for incidents....
BusyB Posted June 3 Posted June 3 “Our priority is to establish rigorous guidelines to ensure visitor safety,” Which we then won't enforce for whatever reasons. 2
PETERTHEEATER Posted June 3 Posted June 3 A brief mention of the requirement for operators to have insurance cover. Imagine applying to an insurance company for insurance covering your paying customers against injury or death and explaining that you tow them with a speedboat as they hang from a parachute over the sea. If that doesnt draw huge premiums nothing will! What 'cover' do they actually have?
brianthainess Posted June 3 Posted June 3 So just how did the Chinese lady break her leg ? On take off or landing ? The operators need to explain how to take off and land, do they have printed instruction sheets or speak multiple languages ? I doubt neither just strap you in and of you go TIT.

It's nice that they've shut down these operations while the regulations are promulgated and explained to the parasail operators. Oh wait. 1
Mr Meeseeks Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Headline says Pattaya Mayor to enforce stricter safety. The article then states, Mayor Ngampichet convened with city officials and tourist police to discuss stricter regulations. Also, "Our priority is to establish rigorous guidelines to ensure visitor safety". So how can they enforce anything if regulations do not yet exist?
