Report Thai Cannabis Industry Faces Chaos Amid Political Shifts
FILE- A staff member prepares a flower bud of cannabis for a customer at a cannabis shop in Bangkok, Thailand, July 18, 2024. (AP Photo/Sakchai Lalit, File) Three years after Thailand became the first Asian nation to decriminalise cannabis, the industry is in turmoil as new regulations require a prescription to purchase cannabis at the thousands of dispensaries across the country. The rules have sent shockwaves through the industry, igniting criticism from pro-cannabis activists who viewed liberalisation as a boost for Thailand's wellness and tourism sectors. Dispensaries now face stringent guidelines, only selling cannabis from government-certified farms and capping sales at a 30-day supply per customer. These changes come following Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's pledge to tighten drug policy, limiting cannabis use to medical purposes. This shift coincides with political unrest, as the pro-cannabis Bhumjaithai Party exited the coalition to join the opposition. Rattapon Sanrak, owner of the Highland Cafe in Bangkok’s backpacker hub, laments the situation, expressing that compliance costs and intense competition, compounded by fewer foreign tourists, have left businesses struggling. He calls the new measures "political revenge", warning they could push uncertified products underground. Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin announced plans to reclassify cannabis as an illegal narcotic and introduce additional regulations requiring dispensaries to have a doctor on-site. The sudden implementation of these rules caught businesses off guard, forcing many to close temporarily while considering their options. Some entrepreneurs are contemplating legal action to delay the new regulations. An advocacy group, Writing Thailand’s Cannabis Future, is mobilising protests against the regulations, claiming they will not stop recreational cannabis use but instead foster corruption through fake medical prescriptions. The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce reported the cannabis industry was valued at 28 billion baht (£622 million) in 2022, with potential growth to 43 billion baht by 2025. H.Pylori test in Bangkok -- cheapest option?
Yeah ... most indicate that half the world has H.pylori. In developing nations like Thailand, India, etc they estimate 70-90% of the population have H.pylori. So if you are still single, or into the P4p scene and go kiss a girl- you will just immediatley get reinfected again. -
