A cruel trade that should have been banned after the Middle Ages.  In addition to the suffering to the animals (even before the fire), there's the selling to unsuitable, irresponsible people plus the risk of diseases spreading to people and animals.

There's also the breeding and trafficking industry upstream of this shameless industry.

Correct. I also believe that the market has been described as 'illegal' by Thai authorities in the past, after investigations by foreign media.

Yet it was allowed to continue and this is the result.

Karma for the owners.   A real shame for all the animals that suffered and died in their cages.

Insurance policies should cover losses.

Ask a Thai "What is insurance?". Sad for the suffering of animals in this fire.

It would be advisable to know what karma is before spouting nonsense.

Karma is nonsense just as much as heaven and hell, you either believe in it or not. It seems to help the weak minded feel like there is some justice in the universe and that wrongs will be righted in a natural cycle of action and reaction. No evidence for it at all.

Karma is like gravity. It works whether you believe in it or not.
That being said, everyone is free to believe whatever they want, but calling people "weak minded" when it's you who is ignorant of the facts is rather hypocritical and funny at the same time.

No, you can only prove a positive

I will be visiting Chatuchak Market today to do an onsite inspection of the damage caused by the fire.

It is beyond me why anyone would leave a fan on running continuously to keep animals cool with no one there,  it's a fire risk just waiting to happen.
