GypsyT
Very interesting report; Damn... link has gone missing!? Was on Yahoo News. jas007
From what I’ve seen online, the $1 houses in Italy aren’t always in good shape. By the time you spend money renovating, you’ve spent a fortune. Japan also has abandoned houses you can buy cheap. They aren’t $1, but some of them look like you could live there while doing any renovation you might want to do. Of course, anywhere you go you have to sort out the visa situation.
GypsyT
Link; https://edition.cnn.com/travel/sambuca-sicily-cheap-homes-three-euros/index.html Fixing is NOT expensive if you don't want luxury. Why? Because no demands nor fast rules what you wanna do. "Most of the people who’ve been lured to this remote spot in Sicily, situated far from the touristy crowds, are from the US. This has helped to create a “Little America,” with most residents now speaking some English with a Sicilian accent, even the elders." The residency process is not simple. You first have to have a place to live, and lease agreements in Italy are typically longer term leases for several years. The places are usually not furnished. So you are put in the position of having to rent a place you might not like, just to apply for residency. You could also buy a place without being a resident, but how would a person know anything about a particular location without first having lived in the area? GypsyT
It takes "Oklahoma spirit" to make a move. "When the signal for the process of land registration was raised, thousands of people rushed across the border as the Oklahoma land rush began. Approximately fifty thousand people; young and old, men and women rushed to try their luck in acquiring the 12,000 land tracts that were available." Would I go to Italy and Sicily? No. But Spain is doable. One reason is this; https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/ended-er-during-vacation-spain-031602945.html
