Pattaya Police Chief Suggests Shutting Down Second Road Motorcycle Taxi Station

A viral video on Thai social media shows a group of motorcycle taxi drivers attacking a tourist outside a popular shopping mall on Pattaya's Second Road. The incident took place on the evening of June 22nd.

 

The video, which is approximately 40 seconds long, has caused outrage among internet users who are demanding the closure of the motorcycle taxi stand.

 

Local news sources reported that the tourist, who was attempting to park his bike in front of a mall on Second Road, was confronted by the taxi drivers telling him not to park there. In response, the tourist allegedly made an offensive gesture, which incited the assault.

 

Reacting to public fury, Pattaya Police Chief Pol. Col. Nawin Thirawit disclosed that the assaulted tourist is a Russian citizen. The victim has been interviewed by police and has undergone a medical check-up at a local hospital. The police have also identified the culprits from the video, Pol. Col. Nawin added.

 

The police chief strongly criticized the attack, stating that the police are waiting for the medical report to press charges against the drivers. The incident was also discussed with Pattaya's Deputy Mayor Mr. Weekit Manarojkit, and they decided to suggest to city transportation officials to shut down the taxi stand.

 

The police chief noted that this is the third case of violence associated with this specific taxi stand in Pattaya since last year.

 

The drivers involved in the incident have not made any public comments, and the police have not yet disclosed their names.

He gave them the finger and they attacked him, I don't think that's the outcome he was expecting. Hopefully they do get rid of the stand as they overcharge anyway like any motorcycle stand outside popular tourist areas. It's not like there isn't 2 or 3 other stands a few steps away from that one anyway.

A fortnight ago, I went for a meal with the GF to Patrick's Steakhouse in the arcade on Second Road/Soi Diana. The taxi dropped us off on Second Road and you literally couldn't get from the road onto the pavement/sidewalk because of all the rental motorbikes parked there. Not motorbike taxi drivers, more like Indians trying run a bike rental business with zero overheads as they're using public property for their showroom, lol.
