Every opportunity the locals tarnish the reputation.

The trouble is that most of the drivers in the tourist areas are not local people. If you want to set up you go through the local mafia.

  • assured that the complaint would be thoroughly investigated      And next year I'll be a millionaire !

  • In many countries there are fixed prices from airport to hotels.. Why not possible in Thailand?? Government should intervene as the taxis are unable to work with fair prices..

I went to Krabi Airport and immediately booked a Grab to Ao Nang.  On the way out to the car park I had to run the gauntlet of the taxi touts who would NOT leave me alone.  One followed me all the way

nice country, double price or 10x for national parks,  police that cannot be bothered, illegal to post honest reviews about anything, ...   thai land... but still local maffia make up their own rules and prices...

It’s how thailand works…w/o enforcement some Thais are more crooked than others…some just prey on naive tourists pushing the envelope to the highest fare and they find suckers

others are more reasonable in their fares but it’s a crap shoot and one is lucky or unlucky on whom they meet

So will the family member now be prosecuted for unlicensed taxi?

Not if they didn’t accept payment for a ride, no.

The women charge similar to that and they don’t have all the associated running costs of the vehicle.
I really don’t see a problem, he was not forced to pay it.

He would have been forced to pay it if he didn’t have relatives in the area who could pick him up. Not every tourist has local contacts to help them avoid being fleeced.

Unless the police nabbed this taxi driver already. Then there was no quick response. I do not think they will bother looking at video footage in the airport to seek out who the driver was. No harm was done and no money lost. So no charges can be made unless the man follows though. But really it is his word against the drivers now.

I don’t think it’s a one off taxi driver. I bet this is the prevailing rip off price by all drivers. It’s a mafia, not just individual guys. In their own way, they are pretty organized.

highlights the urgent need for regulation to protect the image of this popular tourist destination

all about "Face"    nothing to do with protecting the public from pond scum

where's Mr PM when there is something that can actually be fixed  1-2-3 ?

oh,, he's busy scheming a new seaport for the chinese to dock war ships

For the last couple of years I've been getting a shared mini bus from Krabi Airport to Ao-nang 150 baht which for me is reasonable, o.k you have to wait for them to get enough customers, but it's worth the wait.......

There's also the option of getting a Taxi which is around 500 baht.....

Tour operators at airport when you come through arrivals have signs with costs for various trips including to Krabi Town.
