Lithium Battery Fire in Non EV.

Featured Replies

23:00  on June 27, 2024, police officers from Phan Thong Police Station, along with firefighters responded to a report of a van fire on Sukprayoon Road, near the front of a Shell gas station in Nong Tamlueng Subdistrict, Phan Thong District. Three fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, responders found a white Toyota Commuter van, license plate Ubon Ratchathani, engulfed in flames. Firefighters battled the blaze for over 20 minutes before it was fully extinguished, but the van was completely destroyed, leaving only the metal frame.

The 64-year-old owner of the van, recounted the harrowing experience. He was driving as usual when he detected a burning smell. He pulled over and called a mechanic to inspect and repair the vehicle. Moments later, he noticed flames emanating from the lithium battery he had installed to power the van's air conditioning. The fire rapidly intensified, leaving him unable to control it. He confirmed that the only modification made to the van was the installation of the lithium battery for air conditioning purposes, and the van was solely for personal use.

Police will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
