webfact Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 A former Pheu Thai MP for Mukdahan province, Anurak Tangpanithanont, was sent to Bangkok Remand Prison today, to serve his six-year term, after a panel of Supreme Court judges upheld the sentence for a bribery conviction imposed by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders. The panel also reconfirmed the Supreme Court’s order withdrawing Anurak’s voting rights and the right to contest elections for 10 years. Anurak was found guilty of demanding a five million baht bribe from the director-general of the Groundwater Resources Department, in exchange for approving the department’s budget. Eloquent pilgrim Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Good news obviously, but merely the tip of a gigantic iceberg; and the concern remains that such prosecutions and convictions will continue to be very selective. 1 1
Geoffggi Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 It appears to be normal corrupt behaviour for Pheu Thai officials, maybe they should be disbanded !!!!! 1

TheFishman1 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 If they locked up every politician that was corrupt that I’ll be in jail now if they locked up all the police that were corrupt well, you know the answer to that TIT
spidermike007 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 He must have pissed off the wrong people so few people are charged with bribery here, it's actually rather astonishing and makes one believe that it's condoned and allowed at the highest levels. My woman's sister-in-law was just given a position with her Tambon, and she had to pay 200,000 baht for a position that pays 9,000 baht a month. Apparently the position is for life but it was sold by the district headman, and this happens all over the country. She tells me that the entire country is run like one big sewer, with one crocodile after another collecting massive sums of money. Nearly all positions in this country seem to be bought and paid for and how many people actually get charged for that crime?

Korat Kiwi Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 It occurs in the Philippines as well. I've known locals there to take out big loans just to get into 'office'. Even going to the extent of giving donations to voters outside the polling stations! It's a real bugger if they still don't get in. They spend the rest of their life paying off the loan.
