In a significant development for European defense, the United States and Germany have jointly announced the planned deployment of advanced long-range missiles in Germany by 2026. This move, aimed at bolstering NATO's capabilities, underscores America's commitment to the alliance and its strategic role in Europe. However, the announcement has sparked a stern reaction from Russia, with Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov promising a military response.

The deployment will include sophisticated weaponry such as SM-6 missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and developmental hypersonic weapons. The U.S. and German governments clarified that the deployment would be "episodic" initially, but plans for "enduring stationing" are being considered for the future. This initiative aligns with the broader strategic objectives of NATO, particularly in light of ongoing security challenges in the region.

"Without nerves, without emotions, we will develop first of all, a military response to the new threat," Ryabkov stated to journalists, as reported by Russia's state-run TASS news agency. While he did not specify the nature of the military response, he emphasized that these measures would not force Russia to disarm or trigger an expensive arms race. Instead, Ryabkov indicated that Russia would adopt a calculated and measured approach to counter the perceived threat.

The U.S.-German announcement coincided with NATO's 75th-anniversary summit in Washington. During the summit, the alliance's 32 members declared that Ukraine is on an "irreversible path" to membership, highlighting the alliance's support for the country amid its struggle against the full-scale invasion launched by Russia in 2022. However, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg noted that Ukraine's membership would depend on agreement among allies and the implementation of necessary systemic reforms.

The eastward expansion of NATO, particularly Ukraine's aspirations to join the alliance, has been a contentious issue for Russia. This expansion is often cited by Moscow as a justification for its ongoing military actions in Ukraine. Despite NATO's assertion that it does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia, the declaration of Ukraine's future membership has escalated tensions. The alliance emphasized its willingness to maintain communication channels with Moscow to mitigate risks and prevent escalation.

The announcement of Ukraine's future NATO membership prompted a strong reaction from Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council and former President. Medvedev warned that Russia would take all necessary measures to prevent Ukraine's integration into NATO. In a social media post, he stated that Russia "must do everything to ensure that Ukraine's 'irreversible path' to NATO ends either with Ukraine's disappearance or with NATO's disappearance. Or better yet, both."

Hmmm... which country has been continuously making nuclear threats for months?

Once more, Russia gets a taste of its own medicine! 😃

some people who know the history of what happened in 2014 in ukraine, the shelling of east ukraine by ukraine nazi military, would speak differently

the promise of reagan / gorbatchov with the fall of the wall, to not go expand nato EASTwards has long been forgotten

USA would not tolerate missiles pointed at them in cuba, mexico, ...

1. Those who don't believe Russian propaganda know the the Donbass rebellion was led by Russian operatives formerly employed in Chechnia, that Russian troops and weapons have been also present there and that shellings went both ways.

2. Not really a promise, and the Soviet Union doesn't exist any more. Notably thanks to Russia declaring its independence in June 1991.

3. Russian missiles have always been pointed at European countries, and they have been publicly threatened of nuclear strikes by Russia.

It always makes me chuckle when I hear Russia throwing out its threats to NATO of massive retaliation for some statement made by a Western politician.  They seem to forget that whatever they threw West they would get back 10 fold x 10 again.  To use part of  Air Marshall Harris's speech  in 1942 about the Nazis, applicable to the Russians 72 years later: ,

'They entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everybody else and nobody was going to bomb them. They sowed the wind and now they are going to reap the whirlwind'.

Russia may yet see that whirlwind.

Medvedev seemed quite a reasonable person 20-odd years ago when he was first PM then Putin's 'deputy' as president of Russia. More recently he seems like a nut case.

Not seems like. IS a nut case! Agreed, the transformation is quite bizarre.

Research the Maidan riots of 2014. This was orchestrated you the USA.

More Russian propaganda. The U.S. supported them, but did not orchestrate them.

Kind of bad guy/very bad guy tactic between him and Putin.

That's why McCain and Nuland were both in Ukraine at the time. Of course coup was orchestrated by the US. They didn't like the fact that the ousted PM was Russia friendly.

You are confirming what I wrote. They came to support protesters after the violent crackdown (BTW, McCain was an opposition politician at the time), they did not orchestrate the protest.

The main reason for the Maidan protest is quite simple: they were not attracted by Putin's model of society, they were more attracted by the European model.

You are twisting facts. Listen to this.

One rich family in USA made a deal with another rich family in GE. Nothing to do with NATO and Russia.

As retarded Biden said "Only God will stop me" from getting more and more money.

And there's no God hence there's no force to stop this greedy lunacy.

Long range missiles in GE?

You will need only 1 single Sarmat to turn GE into radioactive wasteland. What were they smoking/sniffing?

btw, Biden went complete ape-sh*t with his insults and name-callings. That "rude" asian american at Siam BTS would look like a kiddie comparing to the father of a junkie.

They were discussing about possible members  of the next government, so what?

It's no proof that the U.S. orchestrated the Maiden protest.

Nothing to compare with Russian operatives such as the Russian GRU colonel Igor Girkin openly leading the rebellion in Donbass and Donestsk.

You need to face reality, Putin's model of society is not attractive to anyone. Economic failure, failure to trigger the well-being of Russian people, demographic failure, lack of freedom and autocratic government... who can be attracted by that? In particular when compared with being protected by EU laws and the ECJ,  and have access to the same opportunities of economic and social development as former communist countries which joined the EU
