Solar Panel Technician Falls to Death from School Roof: Bangkok
Another case of cost cutting and taking undue risks in Thailand. Safety mesh should've been fixed in place prior to the roof being installed. I'm a retired plumber and I had a number of times when the tiles crumbled. Luckily for me the safety mesh saved me from any falls. Cement tiles dry out in the sun over the years and become very brittle. -

Do You Believe: Next year, and the next, will be HOTTER than 2024?
Dear Folks, I guess almost everyone has heard about WET-BULB temperature, by now. And so, what do you think? Do you think you will be able to survive, in Thailand, when next year turns out to be even hotter than this year? And, in case next year turns out to be an anomaly, and 2025 might be cooler than 2024, then what about 2026? If you don't know about wet-bulb temp, then you ought to learn something about it, and concerning the effects of working outside, just in case you plan to dig any ditches....during the Hot Season. Fortunately for me, I never go outside, other than walking in the Noonday Sun....for only about an hour, or so. And, nobody forces me to, but it's done of my own free will. I am convinced, due to what little that I have read, that Big TIPPING Points are in the offing. And, I have already prepared myself, somewhat. For example, I have doubled the BTU cooling capacity of my house. And, probably, I will add a few solar panels, just to lower the cost of cooling my house, though I will not add any battery storage. Someday soon, most of us will no longer wish to go out in the daytime hours.....well...maybe.... Except for me. However, when I return home, I will have my ACs...simply.....BLASTING....! I do not care what it might cost.... But, when I return home, I want my house to be as cool as a SEVEN, and then some.....like...about.... 19 degrees C. Right now, just for my small house, I have over 60,000 BTU of cooling ...and.... Bayby I ain't Foolin'.... Way down deep in side.... I need cooling...... Humans were never adapted to live in our world today...and.... I guess you have also already realized this. I could say more. But... Do I really need to? I am not worried for this year, since we made it through. I am only a bit concerned for increasing temps next year, and the next five years. I will remain here, no matter HOW HOT it gets.... Just as long as I have enough available energy to keep my HEAT-PUMPS working....NON-STOP, 24/7/365. So then, what do you think....? When will Thailand become too hot for you??? Thailand, some have said, has been too hot for them...though never for me. Yet...I can see it in the wind... Thailand will, someday soon...be too hot for just about anyone, ...unless.....they are..... TALL and THIN.... In order to better radiate body heat, of course. Are you tall and thin? or Are you short and fat? because This does make a difference. Thinking of you.... Gamma NOTE4: So, how much longer, if you are younger, do you think you can live in Thailand, as temps climb ever-higher? Good Question! My answer, for now, is to just Add Coolin' I will had BTUs....as many as required, for as long as I can, before....maybe... The grid is unable to supply any more watts. -

Vocational Student Arrested in Pathumwan for Selling Modified Firearms to Fund Education
Picture of the arrest. A 19-year-old vocational student from Pathumwan was arrested for selling a homemade firearm with a modified barrel for 18,000 baht, claiming he needed the money for tuition. The arrest was made following a sting operation led by the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau (BMPB) on September 6, 2024. The police, led by Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsawang, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, along with a team of investigators, apprehended the suspect, identified as Mr. Pitsanu (last name withheld), in a parking lot at a gas station on Phetkasem Road in Phasi Charoen District. He faces charges of illegally selling and possessing firearms and carrying a weapon in a public area without a valid reason. The investigation began when the BMPB’s second investigative unit, with assistance from an informant, identified the suspect using a Facebook account to sell firearms. According to the authorities, Mr. Pitsanu used social media to advertise the sale of a modified .380 caliber gun for 18,000 baht. A sting operation was planned, and the suspect agreed to meet the undercover officer at the gas station. At around 17:30, on September 6, police officers, along with the informant, arrived at the meeting point. Mr. Pitsanu approached the informant’s car to complete the sale. After inspecting the firearm, the police handed him 6,000 baht in cash, with the informant promising to transfer the remaining 12,000 baht later. The signal was then given, and the police swiftly moved in to arrest him. During questioning, Mr. Pitsanu admitted to modifying the gun himself after purchasing it as a BB gun for 1,900 baht from Chatuchak Market in 2023. He claimed to have altered the barrel at a friend’s house and he could not provide further details on the location. The suspect insisted that he had never used the gun for any illegal activities because he couldn't obtain ammunition and that his sole reason for selling the weapon was to pay for his education. The suspect was taken to the Phasi Charoen Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings. Lt. Col. Teeradech Dharmasutthir, head of the investigation, emphasised that firearms are a significant source of violent crime, particularly in cases involving student gangs. He reiterated the BMPB’s commitment to tackling illegal firearm sales and warned that both buyers and sellers of guns online face severe legal consequences. Those purchasing firearms without a license face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 20,000 baht. Is there a minimum salary or income that you must receive from your employer to qualify? Can the payments from your employer be paid on a monthly basis? As long as you have a bank account with over 500k baht in it, I presume it shouldn't matter how much is your salary or income. Even earning $100/month should be sufficient? -

Diesel Smoke
Using VW dieselgate methods and some pretty broad assumptions, I’m estimating between 150-1000 deaths and about 10,000-100,000 people developing disease (heart, lung, cancer) per year in Thailand from diesel vehicles. This is unlikely to abate with the introduction of Chinese EVs because most of the problems arise from trucks. This is a long shot, but has anyone done these estimates? If so what assumptions did you make about exposure for the Thai population as a whole? Where did you find data? I don’t see data on how many people live on the side of the road, how many hours are spent on trafficked roads, etc. I’m a professor at Columbia who studies this and plan to publish, but can’t without strong data. Dieselgate only killed hundreds to thousands and crippled perhaps tens to hundreds of thousands globally. But everyday trucks here make an emissions cheat look like child’s play. So despite the smaller population, the per capita toll from diesel is likely higher. Any help would be appreciated. The major automobile manufacturers (American, Japanese) know how much harm they are doing but do not offer much by way of gasoline alternatives. -

Myanmar Woman Found Dead in Apartment After Neighbour Detects Foul Odour

A gruesome discovery was made in a Bangkok apartment when a neighbour, alarmed by a foul odour, opened the door to find a Myanmar woman brutally murdered inside. The police suspect her husband, also from Myanmar, who is now on the run. The Bang Khun Thian Police Station was alerted, on September 7, to the crime after receiving reports of a decomposing body found in an unnamed apartment located in Soi Ekkachai 83/1, Khlong Bang Bon, Bangkok. The authorities, including forensic experts and medical personnel from Siriraj Hospital, arrived promptly at the scene. The victim, identified as 39-year-old Ms. Suu Tang, a fresh shrimp vendor at Mahachai Market, was found lying face down in a pool of blood. She had sustained severe head injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, possibly inflicted with a hammer found nearby, stained with blood. The initial examination suggested that she had been dead for approximately five days. Her body was found partially unclothed, with only the lower half draped with a sarong, and showing signs of decomposition. Ms. Suu Tang had been living with her 43-year-old husband, Mr. Tun, who is also from Myanmar. Following the incident, he has reportedly fled the scene. A neighbour , Ms. Boonchu, aged 33, who lives in a room opposite the victim, told police that she had noticed a strong odour earlier in the day and initially suspected that a dead animal might be inside the room. Concerned, she alerted the apartment owner. When the they unlocked the room, they discovered the tragic scene. Ms. Boonchu further revealed that around 21:0o, four or five days prior, she overheard the couple engaged in a heated argument. After that, there had been no further sounds or sightings of the pair. It was also noted that their pet dog was missing, possibly taken by the husband when he fled. Forensic teams collected evidence from the scene, including fingerprints, bloodstained footprints, and other crucial materials. The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspect and are working with the investigative unit at Bang Khun Thian Police Station to expedite his capture. I'm very happy to be alive but at times it's miserable being here, a member on AN is making life difficult, this person is like an irritating woman, constant nagging, it's endless and really annoying. This person can't help themselves, proper pest, a true keyboard warrior, endless trolling, he just scans the different threads looking for my comments to attack me. 😂
