That is exactly correct, neither the US, nor Thailand, nor many other countries could get by without cheap immigrant labor, some of its legal, some of it's illegal.

The other aspect of this argument that nobody wants to talk about is the legal immigration system and how broken it is and the need to reform a 70-year-old quota system which is completely outdated. A guy from India studies at MIT, graduates at the top of his class in nuclear physics, and can't get a visa to work in the US because of the broken quota system.

That is stupid and bizarre. Yet, few want to speak of it, or address it.

I always find it amusing and slightly sad how Trump supporters go on and on about immigration, and yet their man is the one who killed the bipartisan immigration bill, by discouraging Congress and the Senate to vote for it, to score political points. Another example of a spectacularly selfish man, always acting in his own self-interest and never considering the benefit of the nation.

Again, this lie has been told over and over here.  The bill Biden tried to get passed would do nothing but process the illegal aliens into the country more quickly and help get the illegal aliens legalized and subsidized as quickly as possible. Only a few "Chamber of Commerce" Republicans supported it. The bill was a POC.

Why is it that HR2, a bill that actually would close the border passed the house over a year ago, but Democrat controlled Senate stopped it?

Why does that not get any press?

And again, as soon as it looked like the border would cost them the election, Biden reimplemented some of Trump's policies and finally got the border closed.

I would like to talk about this. Why is it that with almost a million legal immigrants a year, do we not have room for a "...guy from India studies at MIT, graduates at the top of his class in nuclear physics..."?

You well know why HR2 isn't supported by the Democrats, for those who are unaware the following provides a summary...

The bill includes some measures we have heard about—including completing a border wall, changes in asylum standards, and expansion of detention for families and children—along with other hard-line policies that turn our immigration system into a punitive tool aimed at immigrants in the United States. In this piece, we examine three of the cruellest, but less known consequences of an enacted H.R. 2 in the name of “securing the border.”

So with all the benefits of illegal immigration, why is Harris pretending she is going to stop it? Why does she not defend her open border polices?

No, Democrats do want open borders, that's just echo chamber trump BS. The link I provided makes it very clear why the Dems object to HR2. As has been repeated many times, trump blocked the bi-partisan bill purely for selfish political reasons, not for the good of America.

The quota system. Look into it. I have discussed it with immigration attorneys. They all agree. It needs to be updated.

While I agree that the quota system needs to be updated, I doubt very much immigration attorneys would be who to ask about it. They have a vested interest.

In any event, legal immigration is a completely separate issue from illegal immigration and border control.

Unlike what the press would have you believe; most people do not have an issue with legal immigration.

The intent of the bill was clear, and it was not to stop illegal immigration. Rather than relying on the leftist propaganda NBC spews out, why not just read the bill?

Well I do believe quite strongly that it's very difficult to have an intelligent conversation about illegal immigration, without discussing the need for reform, and the need to update legal immigration. The system is broken and there are reasons why the system is broken, however a lot of that kind of well informed discussion seems to get lost on the podcast mob.

Once illegal immigration is reduced to a mere meme, it becomes quite unintelligible.

I have no idea what you are trying to say.

It is two different discussions.

It is hard to get support for legal immigration when millions of illegals are flooding into the county.

What does everything have to be "comprehensive"? Why can we not get bills past one page at a time?

I recently watched a video with Regan in a presidential debate. Topic? Problems with border controls and illegal immigration.

Politicians don't seem to want to solve the problem. Just kick the can down the road

Completely false. Let's have an honest discussion here. This is what Trump convinced members of Congress and the Senate to veto as he did not want Biden to get credit for the passage of this bill. You could not only make an argument that it was a huge disservice to his nation, but you could also make an argument that it was entirely selfish motives that compelled him to act in such an unpatriotic manner.

A “Border Emergency Authority” Adding a New,

Restrictive, and Opaque Process

until Border Crossings Reach Very Low Levels.

The “trigger” authority—called the “Border Emergency Authority”—would enable the administration to summarily deport migrants who enter between ports of entry without permitting them to apply for asylum.

In addition it would have allowed for the hiring of 1,500 additional border agents, specifically for patrolling the border areas.

The upshot is this: on any given day, a would-be asylum seeker would have no idea whether they would be allowed to seek asylum in the U.S. or not. The government would be allowed to opt people out of summary removal for a variety of reasons, including operational constraints such as overcrowding. Non-Mexican unaccompanied children would also be exempted. Those set for summary removal could receive a screening for non-asylum humanitarian protection by affirmatively “manifesting” fear of persecution or torture to a border official—volunteering without prompting that they fear return or showing an obvious sign of fear.

Notably, for the first time since 1990, the bill would allocate additional immigrant visas—green cards—to expand legal immigration to the U.S. The increases would amount to a 13 percent increase for employment-based visas and a 7 percent increase for family-based visas for the next five years.

I think 5,000 a day (almost two million a year) was the trigger.

Why not post a link to the actual bill rather than the analysis done by a group that depend on immigration for its survival?

That post (different than the other) was to point out the illegals work for less pay than anybody. They do jobs nobody will take.

Those employers bear the responsibility for hires without work permits.

So you are against illegal immigration and want the illegal aliens deported, yes?

Only folks who are so blinded by their obsession over Donald Trump will ever claim that the Border was not wide open.

It's not an interesting take, it's what actually happened. You want to believe the Biden version, up to you.
