In a startling demonstration in Times Square, anti-Israel protesters brandished a portrait of assassinated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and waved a flag symbolizing the terrorist group on Wednesday afternoon. The rally, marked by chants of "Free Palestine," saw one protester holding a Hamas flag while another displayed a photo of Haniyeh. This individual, masked and wearing sunglasses, also donned a hat with a yellow headband representing Hezbollah, another terrorist organization.

Among the roughly 300 demonstrators, another protester held up Haniyeh’s portrait while Palestinian flags were waved prominently. The rally appeared to be a response to a speech by former Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Jonathan Conricus in midtown. Supporters of Israel, numbering in the hundreds, attended the event, with about 50 remaining into the evening to counter the pro-Palestinian demonstration by waving Israeli flags.

Tensions escalated when pro-Palestinian protesters surrounded two Israel supporters and allegedly threw liquid at them. In retaliation, a woman wearing a pro-Israel shirt sprayed the group with an unknown substance, as captured in footage from the scene. The man accompanying her explained to police that she was "protecting herself" before officers intervened and separated her from the crowd.

One Israel supporter expressed sadness over the pro-Palestinian protesters' resort to violence, criticizing Haniyeh as a "war monger." The protest took place less than 24 hours after Haniyeh was reportedly killed in an airstrike at his residence in Tehran.

Haniyeh was a monster and few mourn his death. Obviously, carrying his image is a dumb thing to do. But, democracy gives one the right to protest. Something the oppressive Thai authorities do not grant with grace.

Although democracy gives one the right to protest it doesn't give one the right to spew hatred and support or wish for the destruction of a people. When you feel that type of hatred is directed at you (for example), perhaps you will feel differently. I do agree with you, that creature was a monster and I'm happy he's not walking!

It should give them rights of full free speech and when they are being murdered by Israelis in their thousands they should be able to hold a flag up, for goodness' sake. The guy is a freedom fighter to millions of people. The ICJ recently announced that Gaza, Golan Heights and West Bank are occupied territories which makes it legal for forces in those areas to attack the occupiers. Why should murderous Israel bellowed to hold Israeli flags when they commit war crimes every day and their leader is a war criminal. Haniyeh as far as I am aware has not been selected for arrest as a war criminal.

The ICC prosecutor has requested an arrest warrant for Haniyeh, despite the fact that he was leader of the political wing and, according to publicly available information, not taking part in the planning or execution of the 10/7 operation. Besides, he was leading the negotiations for the ceasefire. The bombing of Haniyeh is not in the interests of peace, but fits Netanyahu's objectives.

The report is titled, “Investment in Radical Activists: A Case Study on the NDN Collective Supported by the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act,” and highlights the anti-American statements and positions from the NDN Collective, a radical activist group that is set to administer $100 million in taxpayer money from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In our oversight of the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act, we’ve found over and over again that the law is quietly bankrolling extremist groups like the NDN Collective that openly advocate for anti-American, anti-police, and anti-Semitic causes, which have nothing to do with protecting the environment,” Ranking Member Capito said. “The American people deserve to know the truth about how the Biden administration is spending their money, and we will continue to follow where that money goes, exposing the indefensible positions held by the groups that are benefiting along the way.”

The anti-Zionists and anti-Israel posters on AN have some strange bedfellows.  The woman waving the picture of Ismail Haniyeh in the video in the OP ...

Hamas.jpg.abda60caa1c59e760aec5906be59d5a8.jpg

... looks to be Nerdeen KIswani, a leading anti-Israel activist and old-fashined hater of Jews.   She sometimes forgets she's supposed to say
"Zionists" instead of "Jews."  She founded a group called Withi Our Lifetime that has organized dozens of protests in support of Hamas since Oct. 7.  Her group hs attempted to disrupt events like the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade,  the lighting of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center and numerous other holiday and special evvents.  They have also made life incovenient for tens of thousands of New Yorkers by blocking JFK Airport and train stations, stopping traffic on major highways and bridges, cutting off access to museums, etc.

Most shocking, she organized a protest that attemptes tp storm an exhibition in mid-town Manhattan in memory of the victims of the Nova Music Festival maasacre.  In public statements, she tried to justify the killing of attendees of the festival.

The chants she leads at the protests are disturbing.  Besides the usual ones in English ("From the river to the sea,"  "Resistance by any means necessary," "Death to Israel," "We are Hamas,"  "Globalize the Intifada"), she yells out chants in Arabic that are openly antisemitic.  "Khaybar, Khaybar, ya yahud! Jaish Muhammad soufa yaʿoud!" translates as "Khaybar, Khaybar, oh Jews!  The army of Muhammad will return!"  It refers to the Battle of Khaybar in 628 CE in which an army under the direct control of the Prophet Muhammad wiped out a Jewish tribe.  The phrase was coined by a founder of Hamas and has been used by both Hamas and Hezbollah.

Kiswani and her ilk also use the official slogan of the Houthi movement of Yemen: "Allāhu ʾakbar, al-mawt li-ʾAmrīkā, al-mawt li-ʾIsrāʾīl, al-laʿnah ʿalā 'l-Yahūd, an-naṣr lil-ʾIslām"  which translates as "God Is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, A Curse Upon the Jews, Victory to Islam."  The inclusion of "A Curse Upon the Jews" is intended to indicat all Jews, not just Zionists, are enemiies of Islam.

In addition, at every anti-Israel demonstration in NYC you can hear chants in Arabic of "Death to Israel!  Death to America! Slaughter the Jews! Hamas is Coming!" and similar.

I have to ask those on AN who consider themselves anti-Israel and anti-Zionist:  Would you chant in any language, "We are Hamas!" or Hamas is Coming"?
