You have to go back a fair bit further than that to understand that Thaksin should never have been charged under the law used to “imprison” him to start with back in 2006.

MFP won the election on a campaign to change unjust laws. Did Thaksin help or hinder that objective???

I do honestly hope not - for the sake of the country and the sake of the farang ex pat community. There'll be a few on their way out of the country if that happens (and not just the dirty unwashed ones  - without their masks!)

 

The man is no diplomat, that's for sure, and even as Health Minister, he showed his lack of knowledge of even the current legislation regarding his own job when he was refused admission to an important meeting of leaders in Europe because he did not have the necessary vaccination certificates! 🙂  And his penchant for U turns makes any decision he makes questionable at best, which would not sit well with other countries representatives or leaders.

 

For instance, should he (Buddha forbid!) become Prime Minister, I wonder what would become of the Government's cannabis policy, bearing in mind his personal financial investment in the trade?

If they were serious, six months ago already they'd have been writing that Thaksin had been told to stop planning to replace Srettha with his daughter. The fact that this is only now becoming an issue just tells us that the political wind has changed direction a bit. No doubt, the puppet master will be working hard to make the political weather more favourable for his family again.

The unjust laws wouldn’t exist if the last 18 years hadn’t happened. 
 

Thaksin did what he had to do to get out of an effective exile. He’s no saint but I am responding to an entire thread which seems to be making him the issue when he’s the closest the country came to a counter to its actual issues.

Justice? You mean the mob that had assembled and had instructed the coutrs to find him guilty even before a trial had begun? Would you be happy with that type of justice? His enemies had no intention of him receiving justice - it was a lynch mob.

And here we are. Yes sure he was the victim of trumped up charges which were driven by money and power but hey he allegedly offered a bribe - so that’s a hanging offence.
