The Government of Thailand confirmed that the 10,000-baht digital handout scheme will continue regardless of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s political future. This assurance follows concerns over the PM’s potential dismissal due to a legal challenge.

Prime Minister Srettha, aged 62, is under scrutiny because 40 senators submitted a motion against him. They argue that his appointment of Pichit Chuenban, an ex-convict, as a PM’s Office Minister violates the constitution. Pichit was convicted of contempt of court in 2008 while representing former PM Thaksin Shinawatra in a contentious land case.

Despite the possibility of his dismissal, Srettha and PM’s Office Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai reassured the public that the digital handout scheme would proceed as planned. The Constitutional Court’s decision on the PM’s tenure is expected tomorrow.

Bangkok-born Srettha urged the public not to be swayed by rumours, emphasising the continuity of the digital handout scheme. “Those still harbouring doubts about this stimulus programme should seek information through the 1111 hotline, rather than believe circulating online rumours,” he stated.

Srettha also requested the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to tackle the spread of false information related to the scheme.

Jiraporn, also a Deputy Leader of the Pheu Thai Party, expressed confidence in the PM’s position and reiterated that the policy would proceed regardless of the court’s decision. She highlighted the House’s recent approval of an additional 122 billion baht in the current fiscal year’s budget to partially fund the handout scheme.

“Pheu Thai isn’t preparing to replace Srettha. The party is focusing on implementing policies, particularly the digital handout scheme, to help people with their current problems,” Jiraporn stated.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai postponed the registration of shops interested in participating in the digital handout scheme, initially scheduled to begin today. He stated the government needs to prioritise registering other eligible recipients.

The 10,000-baht digital money handout aims to provide financial relief to citizens facing economic challenges. It is part of the government’s broader efforts to stimulate the economy and support those in need. Despite the political turmoil, officials remain committed to rolling out the scheme as planned.

My stepson goes to school and lives near Bangkok, even though he is registered here in Phitsanulok.

How can he register, and spend the money in his 'home town' ?

they are giving this to over 1/2 the country. am i to believe that 1/2 the country's citizens are economically challenged, or that this is a shi_awat populist scheme orchestrated to secure votes?

Part of the filtering system to keep the payments down and the skimming up.

Government estimates the numbers that "might qualify" and come up with the budget.

Filtering lowers the actual payouts and leaves plenty in the kitty.

So all the poor Issan girls working in the South will not be eligible.

That's really sad.

They may be able to register online ?

But if the stipulation is that they have to spend it within a certain radius of their registered address then they won't get to spend it unless they take a trip home.

I think they MUST register online, but the site went down on the first day. He comes home once a month, so he can use it for MY groceries.

If he's eligible, receives the payment and comes home he can spend it in the authorised outlets... if he gives you the goods then yes.

Real people in need do not have internet plans on smart phones and are not technically savvy.

Absolute rubbish.

Which planet were you on when the 50/50 scheme was running.

In previous schemes when there was still money in the kitty, the schemes were extended.

I think the WTT scheme had 4 phases and the 50/50 scheme had 5 phases.

In this scheme you have to register, I would imagine within a certain period of time?

if you are eligible you get a payout.. why would they extend the register period beyond the initial date??

You had to register in previous schemes.

When a new phase was started registration was reopened. With the 50/50, by the 3rd phase there was something like 28 million participants and if I remember right for the last two phases additional registrations were restricted to vendors. Also the amount granted to each participant was significantly reduced to spread it around more.

The amount granted over the life of the scheme was 13,000 baht per person.

The initiative, aimed at providing 10,000 baht via digital wallets, has seen substantial interest with nearly 24 million Thai nationals aged 16 and over already registered through the Stateway App. The registration deadline has been set for 15th September, with the project anticipated to launch in the fourth quarter of this year.

Shows how the population have become more aware, the 50/50 started with 10 million in the first phase, rising to 28 million by the 3rd.
