At 13:30 on August 6, police from the Khanom district in Surat Thani province were alerted to a landslide incident at a site known as "Ban Tubthon Soil Pit." area of Moo 5, Thung Kong Sub-district, Khanom District.

The landslide of soil, from a height of over 30 metres, had buried a backhoe and its driver.

Upon receiving the report, rescue personnel from the Kusol Sattha Foundation rushed to the scene with the necessary equipment to aid the trapped driver.

Rescue efforts were challenging due to the massive volume of soil. Using handheld digging tools, it took over an hour to extract the 50-year-old resident of Moo 5, Thung Kong Sub-district, from the vehicle. He was found in critical condition and unresponsive. Paramedics immediately transported him to Khanom Hospital, where doctors later confirmed his death.

Initial investigations revealed that driver was operating the backhoe to load soil into a six-wheeled truck when the upper soil layer, about 30 metres high, collapsed. The driver tried to jump out of the cab, but he couldn't escape before being trapped under the landslide.

It was also reported that the pit had been ordered to stop the digging earlier in the morning, due to complaints about dust, but the operator continued working.
