An 11-year-old boy was electrocuted while waiting for a bus, before his hand accidentally hit a bus stop light box, causing some nerve damage. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has ordered inspections of all bus stop light boxes.

In the case of social media posting a picture and stating that a male student was electrocuted at a pole and then shook his hand out, causing the iron to cut and sever tendons, at a bus stop on Sukhumvit Road 71 on August 15, 2024.

The Thai PBS news team went to the scene and found that the incident occurred at a bus stop on Sukhumvit 71 Road between Soi Pridi Banomyong 15 and Soi 17, and it is a stop where many bus lines pass by.

Mr. Chanpetch Nilkamhaeng, the father of the 11-year-old boy who was injured, revealed that after school, his son and his grandmother were waiting for a bus at this bus stop to go home, reported Thai PBS.

But while waiting for the bus, his son put his left arm on the electric box at the bus stop and felt like he was electrocuted. So he pulled his arm out and shook his hand, hitting the electric box, which was stainless steel, cutting his left little finger and causing injury.

When he went to the hospital for treatment, the doctor performed surgery and found that the tendons in his finger were not severed, but some nerves were damaged. He will need treatment and recovery for observation for 1 month.

Mr. Wisanu Traiphumpol, Deputy Governor of Bangkok (BMA), said after inspecting the bus stop where the incident occurred that an initial inspection of the electrical box did not find any damage and no short circuits were found. A detailed investigation will be required to find the real cause. As for the medical expenses of the injured, the BMA will be responsible for all of them.

The deputy governor of Bangkok also ordered officials to inspect electrical cabinets located at every bus stop in Bangkok to see if any are damaged. For long-term safety, other materials will be considered to cover the electrical cabinets to increase public safety.

Doesn't sound like he was electrocuted to me, was the box not locked ? maybe just caught his hand in the door while being an inquisitive little ........boy. just saying.  There is graffiti on the inside of the box that leads me to believe it is not locked.

So because this precious little boy, thought he got a shock and shook his hand which resulted in it hitting a electrical box... The Electricity Department is liable for his medical costs?  WTF

The report states that he thought he felt a shock so he pulled his arm out.  What was his arm doing IN the electrical box in the first place?

It appears he got a cut to his little finger.  Boo who... time to go crying to mummy.  FFS

electrocute: to kill or severely injure someone with electricity.

"It appears he got a cut to his little finger.  Boo who... time to go crying to mummy.  FFS"

Or, what actually was reported, "FFS"...

"When he went to the hospital for treatment, the doctor performed surgery and found that the tendons in his finger were not severed, but some nerves were damaged. He will need treatment and recovery for observation for 1 month".

I'm sure that most posters know what "electrocute" means literally, and I'm sure that they also know that this was a translation from a Thai report into English and allowances for that should be made... but, being AN posters, they won't make those allowances as they unreasonably bash out their angry definitions.  So sad.

It was reported he cut his finger.

This is what was also reported,,,

"When he went to the hospital for treatment, the doctor performed surgery and found that the tendons in his finger were not severed, but some nerves were damaged. He will need treatment and recovery for observation for 1 month".

So not "just a cut to his little finger.  Boo who...[sic] time to go crying to mummy.  FFS"  FFS.

Many electrical boxes that I have seen have not been locked. Safety is a four letter word obviously.

BMA is Bangkok metropolitan authority ie city hall. MEA is metropolitan electric authority ie electricity department.

And yes, the BMA is responsible to make sure the signs on bus stops are safe.
