August 17, a construction engineer was found dead at a canal excavation site in Nakhon Si Thammarat after being pinned under a heavy metal framework.

The deceased, identified as Mr. Yot, 57, was discovered under the collapsed structure several hours after the accident.

Police from Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat Station, led by Pol. Capt. Klahan Jaikrajang, arrived at the scene alongside medical personnel from Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital and rescue teams. The incident occurred at a construction site for a canal being built as part of a flood relief project.

The metal framework, approximately 3 metres long and 1 metre wide, was filled with cement weighing about 12 tons. It had collapsed, trapping Mr. Yot beneath it. His body was found with only his head visible, and he is believed to have been dead for 5-6 hours by the time he was discovered.

Mr. Yot, originally from Nuea Khlong District, Krabi, was a construction engineer. Although it was his day off, he had visited the site alone to check on the project due to recent heavy rains. It is believed that while draining water from a flooded area near the metal framework, the ground beneath him collapsed, causing the heavy structure to fall on him. He was unable to free himself, and with no one witnessing the accident, help came too late.

After an examination by medical authorities, no other external injuries were found, with the cause of death determined to be suffocation due to the weight of the framework. His family has not expressed suspicion over the cause of death, and his body will be handed over to relatives for religious rites.
