Said it all already.

In Pattaya you can jump on a 'baht bus' and go all over the city for 15 baht. (Yeah, well, except that many now stop after 15 mins and then make it a new fare if you want to go on. But that's still pennies comapred to the rip-off scandal of transport on Samui!)

And in BKK and Phuket - cheap transport.

But, if you want to sit on the Ring Road and wait for 3 or 4 hours, then you will spot Samui's ONLY PUBLIC TRANSPORT YELLOW BUS crawling past on its way round the island. Yes - Samui HAS public transport. Anyone spotting this slug-bus will be awarded 500 points for dedication (A bit like trainspotting ...)

All one of it. Just one piddly little bus for all the island.

And the driver is paid double his salary by the 'songthiew union' to stop for 10 minutes every 5 minutes. (Rumours, rumours.)

But what the hel_l!

If you LIVE on Samui then you've got transport, anyway. And if you are a fat-bastard tourist, then the taxis here are so cheap compared to back home that you want to write back home to tell them all about how cheap the taxis are here on Samui, compared to back home.

Hardly worth debating, really. I suppose.

Sorry I brought it up.

Spent 3 months bouncin from Bophut/Bangrak/Chaweng, the taxis sure added up, especially at night, would be regularly 300 to

go from Bangrak-Bophut, which is quite a short hop. Alternative is to get a guy thats drunker than you to drop you off on a motorbike at 3 in the mornin. Maybe a good thing not being able to taxi it everywhere as the less you are on those roads the better.

an Armoured personell carrier would be ideal :o

Bang Rak to Bo Phut is about 4k and 5 minutes at night when it's not busy. You offer a bargirl the same money for the same time and she'll be able to go back home to Issan next month.

:D

But- as you say - there's no other choice. So you pay it.

300.- Fare - 150 for a Bike to rent - 700 for a Suzi Jeep - why the heck pay these exorbitant fares? Only because the are being paid - the drivers will keep demanding the high fares....

I have been talking to some influential people on samui... they all just laugh... it will NEVER EVER change!

Because Samuians don't have to pay these exorbitant fares....it's only Farangs and outsiders who are "ripped off"!

TiT - This is Thailand!

I'd hate to see the state of the haircut after your baht bus hit a pothole :D

No No No...

In Nathon it is 60 to 100 Baht. I paid 60 B for a "good" haircut last week.

Why? I just asked him: "Why you have a double price system? Do you think it is good?"

Some Thais dont like the question "WHY", they are getting nervous.

Other ones are just getting angry (like Cab drivers)!

under ground resovoirs. they are pushing the boat out a bit. they can't even put drain holes in the road properly. they are the wrong way round. they take up half the road and many have holes in them which you cannot see when the road is flooded.

anyone had a mate disoppear. try the trap door in samui. or try looking.

the whole isalnd is a manoloply. forangs come here for the island feel. thais come here to make money.

fustrating at times but i always seem to keep coming back yet i still complain. must be the british in me.

The amount of money in tax the island makes. should be enough to build a tropical modern parradise. with a mono rail train rouns the island nice clean roads. non stop tidy electric.

if we do ever break away fro surrathani. wil we be any closer to normal human needs. maybe not a mono rail but some form of train or something. took me 30 mins to get from bohput to lamui yesterday. thats a rough guess of an average speed of about 60 kms per her.

something is not right

i doubt it. to rebuild an island takes more than money. if you know what i mean.

It's simple, I have my lady cut it, since I once got a 30Baht haircut that was like a bowl over the head-cut! Man, did that make me feel like a freak, walking around with a round clup of hair, and cut skin close around. bought a hat til it grew out and never will go to a Thai barber again! I dig my hair, mabe that sounds stupid to some, but I know some off you like your hair too!

Big C, you got a fan club already, cool, and it's Samui's main man, Rooo(ster)
