Pakistani Tourist Robbed by Scam Artists During First Pattaya Visit
A clarification: The tourist was not robbed, nor even deceived. He voluntarily handed over his wallet and there was no tampering on the part of the alleged criminals, nor was any type of force used… -

Tourism Minister Aims to Levy 300-Baht Fee for Visitors
The problem with your suggestion is once the money comes rolling in, the government will forget its intended use, and it will be utilized elsewhere and then back to square 1, gouging the tourists for their own shortfalls, theft of funds, and mismanagement. -

What song brings back a cherished childhood memory, and what is that memory?
For me, it's The Ballad of Davy Crockett. The image of Davy standing alone at the Alamo, swinging Old Betsy at the horde of Mexicans, remained with me all my life and defined my sense of duty and heroism. It became my view of Israel standing against 450 million Arabs and two billion Muslims. -

Less than 40 million Thais expected to join digital wallet scheme
A great deal of puffing about payment but no explanation as to the actual method of payout. Older citizens already recieving the meagre monthly social security payment are already registered and payment is made into their bank account. Therefore, it is to be expected that 'digital wallet' payments would be in the same way. But, the PM mentioned 'tranches' also the previous government blustered about vouchers, Q Codes on smart phones etc. Now they say payments to 'vulnerable' starting end or September yet no mention of how. -

Digital Wallet Registration Results for Smartphone Users Indefinitely Delayed
I do not see how the government would even get commissions. the money they will give is actually being borrowed . Putting the country further in debt. This is a vote-buying scam only. Next we will be hearing how only Thaksins daughter could make it happen. Giving 10k to poor. If it was legitimate, they would make a law to ensure there is money for those people who really need it. Tax breaks for low-income with kids or elderly. Higher minimum wage or better money for those who can file for unemployment. But just giving 10k one time. Does not help most Thais. They will use it on vanity items or booze and gambling. Most of the money will never be used in a way to help the economy. -

Revisiting History: The Unlikely Campaign to Vilify Winston Churchill
A better analogy would be to compare Churchill, Hitler and Stalin outside of the theatre of war: Hitler and Stalin were murderers, Churchill was not. -

Swift endorsement turns more voters from harris than it attracts…
I'm certainly not secretly wishing to have Swift endorse Trump. Swift is a promiscuous traitor with a Gollum hunchback who writes terrible lyrics, I would frankly be embarassed if she were in my camp. I just don't like her. Mostly on account of her promiscuity. Just my opinion. -

Thai Stocks Surge with New Government Policies: Investors Eye Mid-Caps
I'd treat such "news" with caution. It's a Mickey Mouse market that has gone nowhere in a decade. Better off parking your hard-earned elsewhere. Relatedly, I am still waiting for re-instatement of my Thai Airways debenture which was written off a few years back due to the financial restructuring, which itself was caused by rampant corruption, nepotism and mismanagement. The only surprise in the OP was that they missed to opportunity to mention Thailand as a "financial hub". -

Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
900 days into the war and sanctions are like a leaky sieve.Default global morality is just like Thailand, there is no 'bad' money - just money. West funding Putin’s soldiers with growing Russian fuel purchases, report warns Countries opposed to Moscow are spending ever more on cheap fuel made from Russian oil, according to a new analysis shared with POLITICO. https://www.politico.eu/article/west-funding-vladimir-putin-soldier-russia-fuel-oil-ukraine-war/ The imports are technically legal due to a well-known sanctions workaround. While the EU and its Western allies banned nearly all Russian oil imports long ago, countries can still buy fuel of Russian origin if it is first processed in another country, such as Turkey. According to the report, Turkey — and the Western firms buying from it — is taking increasing advantage of this so-called refining loophole, despite repeated Ukrainian pleas that it be closed. According to the authors of the report, one of the Turkish refineries, the Azerbaijan-owned Star Aegean, is 98-percent dependent on Russian crude, with some 73 percent of its supplies coming from Russian energy giant Lukoil, which the U.S. has sanctioned. Nevertheless, almost nine in 10 barrels from the refinery go to Western allies backing Ukraine. https://starrafineri.com.tr/?lang=en -

Breaking an Engagement to a Thai woman, does she keep the ring?
If you broke off the engagement, caused her lots of grief, and big loss of face, you should be more concerned about getting away with your nuts, never mind the ring. -

Is democracy still the best political system for ASEAN countries?
Democracy works best when all, or at least most, of the citizens allowed to vote are well-informed about the issues they are being asked to vote on. That's not the case in my home country, the USA, and I don't think it's the case in Thailand either. The next best type of government, IMO, is a republic, where you elect representatives to vote on the issues. That's what we have in the USA, and even this is not working well. There is too much misinformation being circulated now.
