In an unexpected twist of online fate, Democrat Party MP Date-it Khaothong has found himself at the centre of social media mockery after inadvertently praising himself on Facebook. The mishap occurred amid political shifts, with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, being named Thailand's new Prime Minister, though she still awaits royal endorsement before officially assuming duties.

Despite the high-stakes political landscape, all eyes turned to Date-it on Saturday, August 31. He had posted about an internal Democrat Party meeting discussing their roles in the forthcoming administration. But it was a comment beneath his post that caused a stir. From his own account, Date-it wrote, "Congratulations to the two of you (Date-it and party leader Chalermchai Sri-on). It’s time for you to work for the people as you have been assigned. Fighting! Rooting for you 100%."

Intended to be a supportive fan comment, it instead came from Date-it himself, sparking online laughter and speculation. The comment was quickly deleted, but not before becoming fodder for memes and jokes among Thai netizens.

Adding to the party's troubles, the Democrat Party’s official Facebook page has been closed following a flood of complaints from supporters upset about the party's decision to join the government coalition. This marks the first coalition between Pheu Thai and the Democrat Party in over two decades, despite some internal dissent within the Democrat ranks.

While Date-it’s ministerial ambitions remain in question, his social media slip has provided an unexpected distraction from Thailand's unfolding political drama.

Is the royal endorsement of Paetongtarn Shinawatra as Prime Minister really still pending?

Yes. The Cabinet including the PM listing has not been submitted yet for the appointment, aka Royal Endorsement. It is  reportedly to be done this week, with the officials to be officially sworn in  by mid September.
