PM Paetongtarn's Policy Statement critisised as Echo of Thaksin’s Vision

During the parliamentary debate on the policy statement delivered by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, People’s Party MP Sirikanya Tansakul criticised the newly unveiled plans, arguing they largely mirror the ideas previously promoted by Thaksin Shinawatra, the de facto leader of the Pheu Thai Party.

 

Sirikanya highlighted that the policy statement strays significantly from Pheu Thai Party’s campaign promises. Instead, she noted, many of the Prime Minister’s initiatives echoed points made by Thaksin in his recent speech, suggesting the current government lacks originality and autonomy.

 

"The statement is no different from former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s policies, with broad objectives but unclear goals," Sirikanya commented. She also pointed out the absence of the highly anticipated 10,000 baht digital wallet project, a key campaign promise, and questioned whether the government still plans to implement it.

Thaksin had addressed 14 issues on 22nd August, and 11 of these were repeated in the policy statement, including the digital wallet project for "fragile groups." According to Sirikanya, this trend reflects a recycling of policies from the Thai Rak Thai Party, founded by Thaksin in 1998, and led until his ousting in the 2006 coup in Thailand.

 

“This isn’t just consistent; it’s akin to AAA+ on Miller’s Pyramid of Assessment. It’s about responsibility being handed down rather than innovation,” she remarked. Sirikanya expressed concerns that future cabinet meetings might become mere formalities, with significant decisions being made by outsiders to the official government structure.

 

She added that she seeks a Prime Minister who radiates her own brilliance, comparing the ideal leader to a shining star rather than a mere reflection like the moon.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira later confirmed that the first phase of the 10,000 baht digital wallet payouts would begin on 25th September. The initiative targets 14.2 million people in vulnerable groups, injecting 140 billion baht into the economy.

 

Pichai acknowledged Thailand’s economic slowdown over the past five years, stressing that immediate action is necessary to prevent further decline and to initiate a path to recovery and growth, reported Thai Newsroom.

As long as such vision is good for Thailand and Thai people and helps the Thai public, it is the Right and Proper Vision.

As long as it’s a good vision and helps Thailand and its citizens. Where it originates from is secondary. Thais should feel blessed that the Shinawatra family is wholeheartedly working for the country.

It wouldn't be at all bad if it came from Thaksin if it was a good plan that would lift the economy. They face is that it is a poor plan that has no scope to improve Thailand's dire economic straits for the long term, everything is hanging on the digital wallet giveaway, a monumental stupidity. It has been shown over and over again that short term helicopter money does no long term good for an economy. 

It is simply a bad plan, whomever dreamed it up.

Bad plan? Are you some expert economist? 
Governments in places like Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau give helicopter money regularly to its residents. During the pandemic 96% of the world’s governments gave cash in some form or another to their citizens.

I like this Sirikanya. Not sure about Pitas new replacement though. Doesnt seem to have the same charisma we havent heard much form him. Time will tell I guess.

The Op did say the plans had no clear goals and mimicked Thaksins speech he made earlier. 

What I am confused about it why is Thaksin making speeches about policies the government needs to make? He is no longer allowed to be in politics yet flaunts this at every turn. 

 

Easy to see his daughter does what Thaksin says. So why she can not be the one making speeches so they can not be traced back to Thaksin? Not very smart of her.

My choice for PP leader was always Sirikanya. What a shame she was shoved aside to make way for Thanathorn's protégé whatever his name is.

Offering 10k baht to voters was not a bribe then? They are not only guilty of that but of backstabbing the voters by colluding with the parties they fought against for 2 decades. Hypocritical opportunists. FFP were the party with the most votes so Pita should be the PM not daddy's little girl.

MF lost, could not form a government even with the most votes, that's Thai politics for you. the people MIGHT get 10K out of it  you must be new to this country everything here is corrupt in one form or another, way of life for the Thais, there is nothing YOU can do about it oh it was MF party with the most votes NOT the FFP party

Not elected? Everyone of them were including the scums from PPRP.

I know you wanted MFP  be the government but they couldn’t form one when given the chance so they only got themselves to blame.
PT have as much legitimacy to be the government too and MFP were offered first dips but couldn’t complete the task.

MFP had the most votes by any single party, yes. 10 more than PT. BUT they didn’t have the majority. They were first to be offered to form a coalition government but they failed. 
So technically they became the opposition.

please google the Westminster model of parliamentary elections and system if you can’t understand this
