Although I don't have a Makro near me in Bangkok, I bring olive oil from the UK each year. Much, much better value than Villa market. 

Il Casolare now £14-£16 per litre in the UK. Still cheaper, and better than Thailand. Few other quality "extra virgin" at reasonable prices in Thailand...

Ybarra will be 750 Baht, because it's excellent. But there are other Spanish olive oils that are cheaper, you don't have to go the mixed oil route.

Thread is asking "how long is a piece of string". 

 

There are so many brands of olive oil and so many sizes of bottle but the OP says none of that. And yet people respond as if they know exactly what brand and bottle size OP is talking about.

 

What brand and size olive oil is now 750 baht and how much was it last time you were there to inspire this massive price increase thread?

EU standards for olive oil are  high. One never knows what is in the Turkish, Egyptian etc. product.

Unfortunately, some producers have been caught adulterating their products with crap from North Africa.

In the USA and Canada, it is the wild west when it comes to olive oil. One of the risks of imported olive oil is that it may not have been tested as is required for the EU market.

You're sort of correct. The brand is Bertolli 1 L bottle that cost 750. I did state it was at Makro Sattahip which has a very limited selection. 

 

I was at a mall that has Tops yesterday and strolled through the oil section. Sooo many choices, so many brands and sizes of bottle. I may have to include stores like Tops in my shopping as I usually buy everything at Makro and the small vendors around me for veggies and meats.

The price of olive oil at source has skyrocketed due to poor harvests in Spain caused by drought.
There have now been two years in a row of poor olive oil harvests in Spain and the price there is already double what it was two years ago.

A considerable part of the "Italian" olive oil sold in the world is Spanish olive oil repackaged in Italy.
The big Italian companies have bought many of the Spanish oil mills, take the oil to Italy and package it there with the sign "packaged in Italy". It's a question of marketing.
There is not enough olive oil production in Italy for the huge amount of "Italian olive oil" they export.

Must admit I am not familiar with it, but recall when a fat bird massaged me with it I didn't like the smell. Doesn't coconut oil contain a much higher saturated fat content, nearly 100%?
