What is a good sandwich filler? except cheese or ham

I suppose it depends on whether one is going for a  wigan style shish kebab or a donner   The pies available in Thailand and Cambodia are normally excellent  they are not mass produced by huge companies and tend to have a homemade quality about them.   Most pies sold back in the UK these days are basically unfit for human consumption

I am but one person eating bread, and I would eat too much of it if I buy a loaf of bread or make it...  Making it I would have too much bread, just reasonable quality - which would mean I would tend to eat more of it.   I do however make bread when I go back to visit my parents.   With dried pasta, I can make sure I only have enough to eat within proper dietary requirements since I weight it rather than guess at it.  With rice, I can make portions of rice and freeze them for 'instant rice'  - which are also weighed to make sure there is not an over abundance of it.  Potatoes I don't have a problem with... since I don't eat them (well unless they are fried and that is rare).   But with these starchy foods, we tend to over-eat them since they are not filling based on dietary requirements, which means we eat more of those than we should.   Vegetables are not the most filling, but they are more a good source of nutrition and if you don't over indulge in western sauces, butter, or oil (steaming or blanching more often is good).... can be eaten in abundance.  Protein is higher in calories, but it also is filling (especially if you don't eat too quickly - but give your digestive system a chance to register that you have eaten it - 20+ minutes)... but should be of reasonable portions.   Now, I do love a good sandwich, but I don't make it a part of my regular diet... because sandwiches in volume are not part of a good diet.   Simply put, if you are worried about the filling in a sandwich - you probably have a pretty crappy diet.   Fat and salt are both flavour enhancers when used appropriately - in a balanced diet.

Now we correct this:

In the first sandwich, there was brown sauce and havarti, and not only veggies and chicken.

 

In the second it was cumberland sausage, fried onions and brown sauce. Seems to me, nothing of that is very healthy.

In the third it was bacon, which is not the most healthy part of pork. A lot of fat!

 

In the fourth sandwich it was shredded roasted pork and a suggestion of coleslaw, which is a rather fat filling.

 

As for number five it was bacon, egg, black pudding and added HP sauce. If you see that as healthy, you might want the get your head examined.

So, now we have the full story of what you quoted three ingredients from little Dan O. Directly we can see that it´s a totally different story. Now please refrain from making such stupid mistakes in the future. Just for your information, one of your three ingredients are not especially healthy, and that´s pork, as many take the fatter part of it as choice for sandwich filling. Have we cleared everything up now, and removed the clouds you tried to cover it with?

I'm only speaking to your comment on my post porkie. Where is the " fat filled" in roast pork or chicken with slaw or veggies?  Don't try to deflect with your lame excuse of an explanation. Have I cleared it up for you now. The only stupid mistake was your comment.

I have no problem with vegans and vegetarians to be honest (I tend to eat vegetarians with most meals), but then they should be honest about that and not try to make fake meat out of lots of additives and unknown ingredients - as those are not likely healthy options either.  I however, humans are biologically omnivores... and that means we need the nutrition from meat based sources (eggs are unborn children, milk is from animal slavery, etc. 🤣) as well - though it can be worked around by taking things like B12 supplements.

Sure, coleslaw! Did you get it now? In a coleslaw there is mayonnaise. And now you are going to state fat free or low fat mayo. But, that is something you should have mentioned from start. Danny boy!

Don't be a nitwit.  I suggested coleslaw or veggies. 1 teaspoon of mayo isn't enough fat to be concerned over. There are bigger issue to worry about like what type of bread you choose.

Normal people generally enjoy a balanced diet which provides all the essential nutrients  required for a healthy body.   That is what the human digestive system is designed to  process .  I have never heard of anybody intentionally eating "rotting animal flesh and bodily fluids.   

 The omnivorous diet has served our species well for thousands of years and is essential for our well being ,  one would not last long if one exclusively  consumed only meat  or any other single source of nutrition 

 Veganism is nothing more than a passing fad,   a departure from normal , most common amongst woke lefties and angst ridden teenage girls with misguided notions about animal "rights"     

 Of course we  are perfectly entitled to eat a vegan diet, or indeed whatever we want   just don't forget the multitude of vitamin and mineral supplements  that doctors and dieticians  recommend ,  and try to lose the sanctimonious holier than thou attitude that such a diet seems to cause,  

 A life without Bacon, or eggs , or even milk , what is the point.    unless one strives to look pale , unhealthy , and to have the worst smelling farts and excrement

what the heck is low fat mayo.... mayo is 95% oil.... what do they use instead of oil?  It is literally one egg for each cup of oil... (with maybe a splash of lemon).

oh... drool... hamburgers... now those are sandwiches worth making room for ....  (when I am back home visiting my parents, my father asks if I want a steak, and I am the one saying ... I prefer mine as a hamburger 🤣 )

            My missis, bless her , has always been a bit of an obsessive, its worsened significantly  since she discovered  "you tube"  which she considers to be an infallible source of info. along with TikTok and of course "the face"  she actually thinks that is all the internet consists of .   

              I think It was collagen first  , then whey Protien , then Detox ,   she then moved on to  "haemovit" when a 17 year old you tube "doctor" uploaded some rubbish that convinced her she did not have enough blood to reach her brain , and of course there are always  numerous foul smelling  Thai herbal" cure all" preparations  simmering away 

               Anyway  now its vitamins   jesus have you seen the price of some of these vitamin supplements,  according to the real doctors they are not even recommended, and an excess of one can interfere with the absorbtion of others, 

I keep telling her she does not need it as she eats plenty of fruit and veg but to no avail. once her mind is made up there is no convincing her. 

                Fortunately like most Thais she has a relatively short attention span  it will be something else that takes over her interest  in a few weeks. so ill just have to wait it out 

                I am hoping it might be something I can enjoy too.  like  Weed or full english breakfasts but i doubt i will be so lucky, but as long as its not alcohol or gambling  i don't  worry too much

Alcohol  free beer is not beer , and should never  be described as beer same goes for wine

Caffeine free coffee is another abomination 

But the worst has to be Fat free or even reduced fat "cheese"   WTF is that all  about and WTF is it even made from?   I'd rather not know  Same goes for mayo 

Then there are the normal everyday mass produced foods often available as  either  low sugar   which generally means  some other carcinogenic chemical alternatve has been used, apparently they have found something 5000 times sweeter or reduced salt which I think just  means more sugar.

 what is wrong with just consuming a normal balanced diet,  like our parents did,  they had no need to negotiate this man made nutritional  mine field.

Is it any wonder that life expectancy is no longer increasing  but  chronic  bowel diseases including cancer are on the up?

Cholesterol is another fad coming to the end,   Apparently  its not so bad anymore, just like butter.

I read that one of the side effects of low cholesterol is erection deficiency ,   No surprise then , that Pfizer who make a fortune  producing  drugs to lower cholesterol , also conveniently produce viagra     Coincidence ?  I doubt it

Thanks! Yeah, we are far beyond breakfast now! Took an early lunch with only liquid diet and a couple of puffs, at the same time checking rankings for websites and ordering content and links. Who said it´s not fun at work? 🤣

Agree 100%. I just eat a wide variety of things. Not thinking too much about what I eat, as long as it´s as natural as possible. The chemical things and artificially produced stuff, like you mention, are the most dangerous of all. I might drink a bit too much, but I still do my work with no problem. Probably make more than most of the member on this forum does, and having a fun and great life at the same time. Sure, my consumption might take away 5-10 year from my life expectancy, but there are two factors that make stands behind my choice of life style.

1. I might live until I am so old that I can not walk, talk or socialize with people the last 5 years. What kind of life would that be, not being able to enjoy life?

2. Many people say, you have to cut down on this and that, to live long. So, if having a great and fun life, take away 10 years, so be it. As I had a great life, that will be all that counts. Hopefully my children will be old enough for me to see them grow up until adulthood and even have a grand child as well. As I am only 54, and my children are 12 and 5 years old, it tells me that would be possible even as I live a rather careless life in the health department according to many health freaks. 🙂

Wrong in almost every word above. Veganism is a lifestyle. Been mine for 34+ years. Well more than half my life.

Plant-based is a diet. The percentage of plant-based diets and vegans is rising...not falling, so not a fad. My farts haven't stunk in 34 years. Rotting animal flesh, embryos and animal bodily fluids in the gut cause that awful smelling flatulence...not plants. It's you animal carcass consumers whom stink like 💩

And your vegetarian and vegan propaganda is highly laughable! I a sad way! Crushing a couple of eggs, slicing the pork, adding water and spices. Hot pan, stirring the mix, making an pan omelette adding cheese on top. Yummy. Dinking a beer at the same time. Farting and stinking like hell, but that´s my right as a person who indulge in a normal diet.

Now you go back and eat your artificial meat and chewing your salad. With a little bit of luck, you will grow rabbit ears until Easter.
