This is the old capacitor

Can't see the capacitor  what are the

voltage and capacitance values ?

Should be very easy to find on Lazada or Shopee.

This is the old capacitor for Mr slim non inverter unit, can't find one online, about how much should they cost?

My aircon man fits a new one when needed for Bht 500.

do a image search on Lazada and shopee

But be careful with that.

Lots of capacitors with different vales look the same.

If the capacitor has the wrong voltage or is the wrong type it can blow up.

So, if you don't know exactly what you are doing, don't do it!

That looks more like a temperature sensor to me.

The guy who replaced it said it was a capacitor and they cost 450 baht, I just wanted to check. He charged 900 all in lives in the same soi.

If the aircon works again then  that's not such a bad price   you are paying for his time and experience not just the cost of replacement parts.

I still don't think its a capacitor  but "never mind" and "up to you"

if it works then job done ?

Thanks for that, as I suspected a lot less than 450 baht, he wont be coming back again

Don't feel too bad, it's a small amount of money, I think we've all experienced similar outcomes living in the LOS.

Funny thing is, in Australian the trades (sparkies, plumbers etc) rip you off to (big time) 😂

Been ripped of for hundreds by electricians and gardeners- in the UK!

Capacitor (starter) can is about 1500 baht, give or take, and is pretty standard on different brands of aircons. Had 2 of them replaced recently on different sized aircons, always 1500 baht... including service.

He could have charged you 100 baht for the part and 800 baht for labor.  Or, more correctly, 100 baht for the part, 50 baht for labor and 750 baht for knowing which part to replace.

Bottom line, you had a $25 service call, part included.  That could have easily cost you $500 back home.

Maybe clarification. The capacitor itself would have cost me about 300 baht off Lazada, but I wasn't going to open up aircon compressor myself to replace it.

Symptoms of broken capacitor:

- air is not cold, looks like just internal fan is running

- there is water dripping from flaps on the inner unit of aircon

- sometimes it's hot air blowing inside and cooler air on the compressor

- fan isn't running or is running very slowly outside

Some larger compressors are designed so that anyone can replace capacitor - a couple of screws to remove front plate, pull one out, another one in, replace the plate. That was the case on 28k BTU unit. But on smaller 18k BTU unit, which was in the center of 3 compressors, the technician really earned his money by having to dismantle entire box to get to capacitor.

So it depends - you can go to Shopee or Lazada to buy it - check the current capacitor size and replace it yourself (it would be good idea to cut power to aircon before you touch anything inside), or else call the aircon service company, which would charge you probably around 1500 baht total for the replacement and part.
