Then....

Central Festival will be closed on Sunday?

I was just told by someone who lives in Urbana 1 that the Superhighway 11 side road is flooded. Not sure if the main Superhigh way is flooded. If anyone is driving on the Superhighway 11 tell us here.

It could go either way with Central Festival, they're known to battle through emergencies, but given the state of the roads there would hardly be any people going there, and not sure if employees can come in either. They're obviously elevated though, so Central Festival may not be affected.

I feel bad for the small Thai shop owners, I saw dozens flooded yesterday. First covid lockdown now this. This is will be really bad for businesses.

Many great restaurants will close.I had a reservation at Petit Jardin yesterday. They had to cancel as the restaurant was forced to close. Power cut.

Didn’t know there were many.  What are your top ten?

My top four would be, Casita Mexican, Rajdarbar Indian, Au Der Auf German, and KhuaLek cafe. Out of those 4 the last 3 are closed due to flooding.

Coffee shops, Hom coffee, At Ta Rote coffee, the 2nd is currently underwater.

considerable improvements as of sunday morning, river level down 30cm from peak, no rain last night, and none in forecast today. some areas still "no go" however. it will take days to normality.

If the weather forecast is anything to go by next week is looking pretty good.

Hello, are you people in Chiang Ma?

One easy way to assess the flood risk in your area.

You can instantly see the elevation of each area(by its color).

Chiang Mai topographic map, elevation, terrain (topographic-map.com)

With this map(adjustable), you can predict which are area is safer.

Hope this helps.

So then...

This being a Sunday, are there dramatically fewer cars on the road in CM city?

Where I am, it's completely dry.

SanSai shopping centers were all completely dry on the 4th.

Just a very swollen river looking down from the overpass

I was just wondering about GRAB drivers in the city, mostly.

Are there many about?

Or, is the driving too challenging?

I went out yesterday morning and along 11 the levels next were extream

Evening i went from Saraphi to 1141 via 11 which was all along flooded

11 traffic stopped, everyone stranded. Turned on 11 to go back with help over the divide

Woke to 2 meters deep in driveway

Still rising, neighbors are chest levels.

Thanks for updates

If you read the name of the German restaurant from right to left then you have got it correct. 😅

if you type your start/end points on google maps, it will show how to get there if possible, it knows road closures.

about your last point, very true - not just for restaurants but all kinds of businesses. btw, not only power cuts, now they cut also running water to about 0.5M residents. Nobody knows how long for.

Any internet site with info about when street flooding in city center will subside, so that people can return to their homes?

Seems strange that there is not far more accurate info being posted, with timely updates.

What is the good of being connected to the internet if there is no single authority that gathers, verifies, and disseminates info on a site one can trust...

Or, maybe most of the info is being posted, but only in passa Thai.

Having to be uprooted from one's house, to live with friends or at some sort of makeshift hotel, etc....must be super difficult.

Do you think the situation might get better by November? There is a friend of mine that has to go to Chiang Mai airport to fly back to India

100 per cent. Flooding will go down substantially in 1 to 2 days. By 10th October all flooding is forecast to have receded. There is no heavy rain forecast in the near future that would cause additional flooding, only minor rains.

I said San Kamphaeng was not affected, however, driving yesterday I saw that a number of the smaller villages had severe flooding. Chompoo in San Kamphaeng Noi has flooding and there are road closures which affect access.

Here's a map of road closures, in Thai, but if you look at the map could help you figure it out. The facebook channel Chiang Mai news in English is good info

River on my street in Saraphi stopped.

Pouring rain now!

Yard drained which was two feet deep

Hope the house is okay. Saraphi looks quite affected. Anyone know if the Superhighway 11 side road leaving from Saraphi past ABS school is badly flooded?

So how to get there?

The road going past Airport Plaza was  one of the worst affected areas. Either you go through the water or you drive for hours looking for alternative routes. Check out how it was done at the height of the flood:

It was literally stopped by 1141

The ABS was totally under water in the morning before it got stalled 11 towards CM

The river on my street did not stop

The yard receded to the street

Hope you're okay there. Looks like the road going past ABS is still flooded and unpassable then, even if Superhighway 11 is open.
