Horrific Bus Fire in Thailand Sparks National Debate on Safety

Blah blah blah. Yet more hot air from Thai Ministers.

We all know know exactly what will happen. A few more committees followed by press releases and the obligatory photo opportunity with Ministers congratulating themselves on a good job done.

Followed by absolutely zero action.

It happens time after time with any major incident. Why would any right minded person think this would be any different ?

Thailands road fatalities is an indication of the authorities lack of enforcing the laws of Thailand and changing the laws to be in line with modern day standards starting with the Thai driving licence tests, public motor vehicle inspections and road safety standards. The driving standards in Thailand are attrocious to say the least and the law is constantly disregarded by vehicle owners and drivers themselves. Its in your face every time you drive down the road and the police in 95% of the time do zero!!! Drivers need proper driving education, testing stations need to adhere to & enforce the correct standards & Thai road law enforcement need to get off their backsides and enforce the laws!  The recent bus tragedy is just an indication of the poor level of ethics, morals and intelligence of both the vehicle owner and the driver!

There is no need for more Laws or standards Thailand has Plenty up to date  it is simply Lack of enforcement

Where will they find them?

There have to be qualified people who love their country enough to join the police force; otherwise, Thailand is doomed.

So you feel the current drivers licence test is adequate do you??  and enforcement is what I posted!!! And the fact that the bus owner was able to substitute the correct gas bottles without compliance !!!

The current driving test is not the issue It is the lack of enforcement of these laws no need to change the laws  I do not know of any Police force In the world ( please point out if I am wrong) that just turns there back when it comes to doing their job by enforcing the Law three people every two hours die while the police sit doing nothing

While the bus owner was not licensed to have more that 6 gas bottles per bus nothing i read said   the tanks where not in compliance  and by the way there are no standard for old busses

After the Doctor was killed in Bangkok all of sudden pedestrian crossings appeared everywhere, the problem is no one stops for pedestrians even at light controlled ones.

While an absolute tragedy bought about by a complete lack of care, neglect and a mai bpen rai attitude, give it a month or 2 and it will all be forgotten and all back to normal, until such times as all involved in events of this nature and severely punished  - nothing will change.

The PM has mentioned this, I hope she steps up the game.

Its the most disgusting thing I  have seen in Thailand and I've seen some horrors.

All involved should be charged with murder or manslaughter.

Where are the log books also that were promised by the previous govt, drivers of trucks ,busses and Taxis can drive unlimited hours, drinking energy drinks or whatever to stay awake, I've had cab drivers fall asleep at the wheel nearly crashing on the way down to Hua Hin.

I had to get the guy to a seven and buy  him some energy  drinks and coffee to wake him up and then I had to watch him all the way keeping him awake.

I hired him the day before when he drove me from the airport, he was a good driver so I asked him to take me to Hua Hin the next day, he drove all that night he told me , I said to him you can't do that again you kill yourself or other people .

I give trucks and busses a wide berth and the mad car drivers that approach you from behind the cut in front os you, when i see them coming I get out of the way.

Thailand really need to wake up the roads here are crazy and getting worse, my Soi is like a formula one race track now , it was quiet b4 Covid but its changed now to mad.

I really feel sorry for the parents of those poor children, may they rest in peace.

The driver's license test is a total joke. I sat in a chair with a box with one pedal at my feet and was told to steep on the peddle when I saw the red light come on. I think I steeped too hard and broke the box. Checkpoints are a joke as well. Four people on a motorbike: dad in front with a helmet, mom in back sometimes with a helmet, and two young children sandwiched between them, no helmets. Then I saw them ride away like everything was okay.
