Expats in Thailand urged not to worry about negative income tax
Some Expats will complain that they deserve it. Just like they stood in free food lines during Covid. -

5% of CNG Buses Fail Safety Checks After Fatal Fire in Thailand
What a strange attitude they have in Thailand. Only 5% of buses tested were found to be death traps and that is something to be proud of. -

Expats in Thailand urged not to worry about negative income tax
Keep shining your rose coloured glasses! I remember when the 400k/800k was first mentioned some on here saying: "They can never do that", well they did! Have a good hard think. How easy will it be for immigration to ask "where is your Tax form"? As part of your annual renewal. They already know you have 800k/400k you brought into the country. They have your bank accounts to check any money coming in. Advice: suck it up and pay or have an exit plan in place. I did in 2018 and left in 2019. When I retire, Thailand will be off our radar as full time residency. -

Multi-Vehicle Collision on Rama 2 Road Claims Life of 10 Year Old Girl
See that kind of driving all day every day on route 6.....and you (I) get drawn into do the same as there is no lane discipline. Lorries in the fast lane doing 40mph, cars in the middle lane 30mph and never ever changing lanes.....just sit there. -

Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
When/if TRD confirms that in its '2024 tax guide' or public statements, that would be very welcome. Because it worries me that they could actually mean that they want to stop people who in one year become a non-resident for tax purposes (<180 days) , and realise all their capital gains in that year, and then bring that money into Thailand in a later year tax free. I would assume then that the <removed> 'argument' would be that the person was a tax resident and deliberately became a non-resident for tax, for the sole purpose of avoiding income taxes. Confusing and interesting. -

Psoriasis Treatment in Thailand
I have recently been diagnosed psoriasis in Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok. Actually, I have been diagnosed as affected by psoriasis more than 20 years ago, by coincidence, in the same hospital. This time, I sought the help of an allergologist and a dermatologist for a severe skin allergy, I strongly suspected I had, without any clue of the cause. But both the dermatologist and the allergologist ignored my itchy allergy and focused instead on my psoriasis (which is, I guess, where the money to be made is). The dermatologist offered me straight away to undergo a monoclonal treatment which, according to her, would have addressed all of my skin issues. This is the quotation I received (paying out of my own pocket, i.e. without any insurance): Scapho 300 mg / 2ml pre-filled injection pen: 24,000.00 THB Nursing charges: 180.00 THB Other Hospital charges: 485,00 THB Physician Fee, Outpatient care: 1,500.00 TOTAL per DOSE: 26,175.00 THB (or approximately $790.00) Recommended doses were: one on week 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, followed by one each month afterwards. Total cost in the first 4 weeks: 130,875,00 THB ($3,950.00). Monthly cost afterwards: $790.00. As an alternative, she stated that UV-B therapy was also available, but she did not elaborate. Since I positively knew my issue was an allergy, I changed hospital and, after a throughout investigation lasted 2 months, and a lot of additional expenses, we identified the cause as being a severe (and painful) allergy to clindamycin, which was promptly added to the list of antibiotics to which I am allergic. And since my psoriasis is really mild, I keep on using Enstilar foam when needed to keep it at bay. Approximately $80.00 per bottle in any European pharmacy (paying out of my own pocket, but a physician prescription is required). I consume approximately 1 bottle per year. Unfortunately, it isn't yet available in Thailand. I hope this post may be of help. -

Thai father’s plea to find missing daughter and 262,000 baht
A father is pleading for help to find his 15 year old daughter, who has been missing for over two weeks, along with nearly 300,000 baht. He suspects someone has influenced her. The money from selling inherited land was intended for buying property. Narongchai, a 51 year old rider from Prasat, Ban Dan, Buriram, shared his ordeal, seeking media assistance to find his daughter, a vocational student, who vanished on October 4. The family has been anxiously waiting for more than two weeks without any news. Narongchai explained that in April, he received 262,000 baht (US$7,910) from selling his late mother’s land, a sum shared equally among his siblings. He and his wife decided not to deposit the money in their accounts, fearing they might spend it before buying a 320,000 baht (US$9,660) plot of land to build a house. Instead, they put the money in their daughter’s account, believing she wouldn’t touch it as she was a well-behaved girl who rarely left home or socialised. However, things took a concerning turn when Na, an online seller around 35 years old, befriended their daughter. Na frequently took the girl out for dinner, initially once or twice a week, which Narongchai didn’t mind, thinking it was just an adult showing affection. But the outings became more frequent, causing Narongchai to warn his daughter about focusing on her studies. In August, Narongchai mentioned to his daughter that he planned to use the money to buy the land soon. His daughter responded by saying she was busy. Missing daughter In the following month, she claimed her bank account was locked, preventing any transactions. Narongchai sought advice and was told to visit the bank. However, his daughter kept making excuses to avoid the visit. On October 4, when Narongchai told her they would go to the bank together the next day, she immediately rode her motorcycle away and has been unreachable since. On October 7, Narongchai reported the matter to Police Lieutenant Colonel Settaphong Meeklom at the Mueang Police Station, seeking help to track down his missing daughter and the money in her account. Attempts to call her have failed; communication has been limited to LINE application chats, where she mentioned she was looking for work, but she avoided calls to prevent revealing her location, reported KhaoSod. Narongchai strongly believes someone has influenced his daughter to either take the money or leave home. He urges police to find his daughter and investigate the money’s transfer history, suspecting those who took her out might be involved in wrongdoing. by Bright Choomanee Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Source: The Thaiger -- 2024-10-18 -

Thailand Gears Up for Tourist Boom: 12.2 Million Expected by Year-End
Reliance on a seasonal industry relying on low-educated people bodes poorly for the country's development. Tourists can turn on a whim and go somewhere else more beautiful. Invest in a good education and build high tech industries is more long-term.
