A student bus from Srinakharinwirot University, returning from a field trip was involved in a collision, crashing into a 12-wheeled truck carrying pigs, leaving 31 students injured. There were two buses in a convoy returning from the trip to Suan Phueng, Ratchaburi Province, but only one involved in the crash.

The accident occurred at 18:45  on Petchkasem Road, heading towards Nakhon Pathom City, opposite the Juvenile and Family Court in Nong Din Daeng, Muang District. According to police reports, the bus was unable to brake in time and collided with the truck.

Upon receiving the report, Lt. Col. Pichayapim Suttiwong, an investigating officer at Muang Nakhon Pathom Police Station proceeded to the scene with emergency personnel from Nakhon Pathom Suksaranugroh Foundation.

The windshield of the bus was smashed and the side entrance doors could not be opened. So the driver had got out and opened the back door to get the injured students out. The force of the impact had thrown many of the students around, inside the bus.

Rescue teams quickly transported the injured students, who mostly suffered bruises and minor injuries, to nearby hospitals, with 16 going to Bangkok Hospital, Samranrat  and 15 To Sinphaet Hospital.

The driver of the pig truck, who was fully loaded with pigs, said that he had picked up 130 pigs from Ratchaburi, to be delivered to Nakhon Pathom Province. At that time of the collision, there was a long traffic jam. A car cut in front of him, so he braked suddenly. He believed that the bus driving behind him was unable to brake in time, so it crashed into his truck.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident while ensuring the well-being of the affected students.

"The force of the impact had thrown many of the students around, inside the bus."

So much for the big song and dance the Govt made several years ago that all buses had to have seat belts fitted.

I thought it was law to wear seat belts, so why were they not wearing them, and why did the teachers not make them ?  Another one of these elevated buses, that should not be used especially for student field trips. Why are there no emergency exit windows ?

No pigs ,who weren’t using seatbelts, were harmed. Go figure…

A Tailgating Bus Driver in Thailand; who would have believed it ?   They are in the same club as the 8 and 10 Wheel Truck Drivers who do the same thing day in and day out and no Cops ever do a thing about it.

By the way; how are the Pigs ?

Bus driver driving too fast and too close to the vehicle in front. When are they ever going to learn, and when will the cops start enforcing the laws.

Didn´t they stop all field trips for students, during a 60 day period while inspecting the buses? Seems like that has same meaning and substance like everything else the government and authorities say.

The windows appear to show it's an old style bus no air-con.

Wonder when it was last inspected and how thorough the inspection was?

And is there a standard structured inspection regime for the various types of buses?

Yeah, looks to me like a bus that definitely is more than 30 years old. Yeah, there is scheduled inspections, but as we all know and have read, it´s possible to pay for overlook any faults or age as well as modifications.

Bigger reason than ever to make sure you have a dashcam that has front and back coverage.

They really need to start reporting this as "driving too close to the vehicle in front".
