People who don't know the words they use

Recommended Posts

Ditto

Don't let it go uncorrected or before long everyone in the group will be misusing the word.

Rather than correct someone to their face and maybe in front of friends,

I politely tell them that they should google the word.

"Frottage"  is a prime example of a misused word.

Fascism and Socialism/Communism and National Socialism are variations on the same theme.

Anyone care to take me on? No Wikipedia allowed.

Why would anybody try to explain something to you which you could easily look up?

The question is not how you define certain words. The question is how they are defined in well-established dictionaries.

Translation: I cant win the argument so I will just defer to a dictionary or say "look it up" because I just regurgitate what I am told.

Of course not.

By their actions and beliefs.

You might want to remind the cowardly OP:

Socialist is how they describe themselves.

Duh.

But we know now he is a troll, since even the most moronic human being on the English speaking Internet would know that both of them call themselves Socialist

Did you try to look it up?

Obviously not, otherwise you would keep quiet or apologize for misusing words.

You can protest as much as you want. Better learn before you embarrass yourself even more.

The word racist for sure.  Usually people mean bigoted or prejudiced when using the word racist.

The word literally has somehow been co-opted to become its antonym.  Many people say literally when they actually mean figuratively.

I try to correct most basic spelling and grammar mistakes, but either get some insults or get deleted.

Or, correctly...

"I try to correct most basic spelling and grammar mistakes but, either, get some insults or get deleted".

Indeed, you "should of" corrected your own grammar in that post!

I find it annoying when I read posts here when many people have no idea what they are writing about.

Some of those words which are constantly misused are: socialism, communism, Marxism, pedophiles

I understand that not everybody knows all words, i.e. I would also have to look up the differences between communism and Marxism.

But some people use words just completely wrong. And if I/we tell them that they use words incorrectly, then it seems most people just don't care.

Are you also annoyed by people who don't know the words they use?

What do you do in such situations? Do you try to correct people who use wrong words?

I dont really care, all i know is your opinion on american politics is complete garbage and is clear you deserve thailands government

When used which way?  Can't recall ever seeing that word used on this forum.

Maybe he meant his BTS rides up and down Sukhumvit during the rush hour.

Maybe...that's why I asked him.  Or, maybe, I "aksed" him (as is becoming popular parlance)!?

From the Billy Wilder movie One, Two, Three in 1960's occupied Berlin (James Cagney as C.R. MacNamara  -- Schlemmer his assistant)

C.R. MacNamara: Just between us, Schlemmer, what did you do during the war?
Schlemmer: I was in der Untergrund: the underground.
C.R. MacNamara: Resistance fighter?
Schlemmer: No, motorman. In the underground, you know, the subway.

Do people learn how to use capital letters in American schools?

You have to guess the political leaning of the person using it to even know what is meant by "these" words.

I define "fascism" as subjugation of the individual to the state* - others define it as someone who opposes grown men in teenage girls changing rooms.

*yes "communism also fits under that umbrella because in my definition they are not different."

I could have called this topic: Do you want to apply for my ignore list?

And for the record: I like to hear other people opinions - if they have a clue what they are talking about.

Just: "you stupid, I smart" is not good enough.

But then, my expectation about Americans is not very high these days.

So you know how i feel. You have no idea what youre talking about with american politics. Best stick with thailands corruption, its very transparent and suits your intellectual capacity
