Lol this guy is still calling on his review of Pattaya from the 1990's, in the year 2024.

And, he's not the only one.  Clueless.

Wasn't "calling on a review" (whatvere that means) but

Pattaya of the 90s was MUCH better than it is now.

How could anyone with experience of both times disagree?

Was a <deleted> then too but you had ALL of the same problems but

with better quality of people (easy admittedly), better atmosphere and attitudes and all

at MUCH lower prices.

No I don't believe Bangkok is cheaper than Jomtien  not even close.

Agreed. Easy to pick a few things in a particular area that may be cheaper but take a good cross section from across both and you will see a big difference.

Depends on where the Op is staying.

The real question is, when you go out of expat areas what do you do there? You have no reason to be living there.

You can get things cheaper, but if you don't fit in or have expat activities it does not work out. Most Thai's are living in those cheap areas because they are working during the day, flopping in at night, or going to school. If you're a single guy, it's not the right location.

Thread title is about relative prices, not marital status.

Generally Bangkok has always been more expensive than the Pattaya area, but on saying that I can only go back 25 years, may have been different in the days of R&R.

The generalizations are under attack.

In respect to this comment that was made, I was under the impression that Jomtien was the go to destination for Pattaya region  LGBQTS2+ people, like the happening place for older gay men. Why then would there be women in need of care? Has something changed in Jomtien?  I have been to Pattaya, but not to Jomtien, so I may very well have the wrong impression.

Wow. I find that Hua Hin is as expensive as Bangkok and more so on higher end things. For example, the quality hotel brands like Marriott and Dusit have higher rates than comparable hotels in Bangkok. It is understandable though since they are on the beach.

It is all about economy of scale and Bangkok offers that.  Bangkok also offers a greater selection of products, the big BUT is you have to know where to go and how to negotiate to get the  lowest prices in Bangkok. Cocktails at most decent restaurants in Hua Hin are 120-150 baht.  Night life is certainly better in Bangkok. One can go from a string quartet  soiree to a ripping good dance club very easily. Not going to happen in Hua Hin or Pattaya.  Pattaya tourism  targets lower end foreigners and regional convention/seminar clientele. It's pricing reflects that.

The silent killer now for Pattaya is the traffic congestion. It is not improving. The congestion has added a cost to staying in Bangkok and it has destroyed Patong.   Hua Hin is no better in high season.

I never stay near the beach.I stay in central hua-hin.Near the police station.I dont like the beachlife.

I been working at sea for many years worldwide so i had enough. My last beachtrip was in sentosa in Singapore many years ago when i worked there.People r different what we prefer.

Did you stay at Rio's harbor?

For me the most dangerous place. Police station closed AT 6PM. "Too dangerous!" was the reason...

I survived thanks to GoGo dancer who took pity on me got me out.

Well, I had to please her 3 days and nights for that. Coal black chick from remote mountain clan. Liked white meat. Round bed was on wheels and rotated. Lights were Blue Neon in dark room - reacted to white only.

Elvis died that night. Hotel started to play non stop his songs all night, we knew he's dead.

For some of us, 1977 really does almost seem like yesterday.  Like you could reach out and touch it.
