How busy is Suvarnaphumi?

Featured Replies

Got in at 5:30 this morning and immigration was nearly deserted with some booths with no lines at all.  Pleasant surprise.  What's up?

Nothing...  just the usual swings and roundabouts....

There seems to be a lot fewer recent complaints on here of long queues at immigrations, so it could be improving.

Arrived 1 and half month ago, almost empty at 6:30 in the morning, and when I left 3 weeks ago at midnight, I was not quing at all even at check in with Thai Airways, the security or emigration. Expect it to be a bit more busy in two weeks.

I arrived from Australia at 9:00pm Sunday night, there seemed the usual hoards of Chinese groups moving around as I walked to immigration but when I got to immigration I was surprised so few people, I went to a counter and had 3 people in front of me, I was through in under 5 minutes. No visa and got 60 days, all very fast and efficient. Good to see.

Flew in and out in the past 6 weeks, and the airport was not crowded either time. Me thinks the high tourism numbers are a government fiction.

Does the 60 day Visa exempt help??  Also, I think most flights from Europe tend to arrive around midday ?

I arrived at Suvarnabhumi Saturday afternoon, around 3.30pm. I was expecting it to be very busy but only 3 people in front of me in the immigration queue. No questions asked, stamped in for 60 days visa exempt.

One of the first bags to arrive on the baggage carousel. Probably 30 minutes in total from disembarking to strolling through customs.

Very happy indeed.

I came back Monday evening and not very busy at foreign passports. I use Thai passports and nobody waiting.

Getting the bag was a different matter, a bit chaotic in reclaim hall, I came off a 380 and seemed to take forever.

Not to hijack the discussion, but kind of inline with the latest happenings at Swampy...

What is the latest update on the Business Class using the priority line?? Did they reopen it?? Or are they still allowing us to use the over 70 priority line??? Arriving on the 10th at 11:30PM... Thanks!!

Over 70's lines in the main halls.  Marked "Priority" rather than "Fast Track" IIRC.

Just as an update, I am currently waiting for a flight to Dubai. Monkey class sadly. First time through BKK in a few months and I have to say it just keeps getting better.

15 minutes from check-in to security, getting a multi entry re-entry permit and through immigration.

Security looked busy but was really quick - the new system is much improved in terms of passenger flow. No need to take laptop out of bag or take off watches, belts, shoes.

Re-entry took just under five minutes from me approaching the counter to having my passport back with a multi entry re-entry permit. Because I had done that I wasn't allowed to use the auto gates and was directed to an IO but there were no people in front so took about 15 seconds. Loads of auto gates now, no queues.

Milling around the place is busy and I expected the worse, but it was a breeze. Well done AoT.
