A Thai woman caught stealing snacks from a shop in the central province of Chachoengsao claims that she did not mean to steal, and only wanted to prank the shop owner.

The owner of a local grocery shop in the Bang Pakong district of Chachoengsao, 53 year old Supaporn, called Bang Pakong Police Station to arrest the 42 year old thief, Jaruayporn, at her store yesterday, October 29. Supaporn did not expect theft, as Jaruayporn was one of her regular customers.

Supaporn explained that Jaruayporn arrived at her shop on her motorcycle and ordered a bottle of beer. Supaporn then went to get the beer from a fridge inside her home. When she turned back, she spotted Jaruayporn dropping packs of snacks on the ground.

Jaruayporn then picked up the snacks and placed them in the basket of her motorcycle. Supaporn suspected that the snacks were from her shop and decided to ask Jaruayporn where she bought them. Jaruayporn insisted that she bought them from somewhere else for her children.

With her suspicions aroused, Supaporn asked her daughter to check the security camera, and the footage clearly showed that Jaruayporn stole snacks from the shop. She attempted to take them to the motorcycle while Supaporn was getting the beer but accidentally dropped them on the ground.

Jaruayporn initially denied the theft but was forced to surrender to the evidence. She did not give up on her attempt to evade the charge, claiming that she indeed took the snacks but only to prank the shop owner. She planned to return the snacks and reveal her joke to Supaporn later.

Supaporn was not convinced by Jaruayporn’s claim and demanded that she pay 1,000 baht in compensation. Jaruayporn had no choice but to pay the requested amount to avoid adding a criminal record to her profile.

Even though the two managed to reach an agreement and settle the compensation, the police recorded Jaruayporn’s criminal act and made her promise not to steal from any stores again. Jaruayporn did not face any legal charges for her failed theft.
