A 13-year-old student suffered an injury on the morning of November 4, when a metal rod from a damaged marble bench pierced his leg at a school in Udon Thani. The incident took place around 11:50, sparking immediate concern and a swift response from emergency services.

The Udon Thani Promotion of Dharma Foundation was alerted by the emergency radio centre about the incident , which occurred in the schoolyard. Foundation personnel arrived at the scene promptly and found the young boy fully conscious but clearly distressed, with a piece of metal embedded in his leg. Rescuers used metal cutters to carefully sever the rod, freeing him from the bench structure. Medical personnel from Wattana Hospital then transported him to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

School officials have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but preliminary observations suggested that the marble bench was in a deteriorated condition, raising concerns about the safety of school facilities.

A parent whose child attends the school commented, “This accident could have happened to any student. We expect the school to ensure all facilities are safe for our children.”

The school is reportedly planning an inspection of all seating areas and playground equipment to prevent similar incidents. Local education authorities will investigate the incident and also conduct broader safety checks in schools across the district to address potential hazards.

I assume that the table didn´t move, but the boy did. Sad accident, but he should had been more careful and looked where he put his legs.

Zero ?

Unfortunately they always tend to do an inspection After an accident has happened. Hope the boy gets well soon and that all of the schools will get checked for safety.

They are planning an inspection. Next year perhaps?

Preventive maintenance. Is that even in the Thai dictionary?
