Are we only talking about central Bangkok roads or within the Kingdom?  I think we know the answer to that.

Motorcycle riders and passengers not wearing helmets could be detained at a police station for an hour to encourage future compliance, said Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit.

Suriya highlighted that road accidents are a major concern for the government, with a target to reduce fatalities to 12 per 100,000 people by 2030.

The Ministry of Transport is focused on improving safety through stricter laws, higher standards for driver's licenses, and vehicle regulations in line with international norms.

The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Health are also working to enhance the driver's license process with digital systems and improve health screenings and driver performance assessments. A proposal is underway to include two helmets with every motorcycle purchase, instead of one, expected to be implemented soon. Additionally, discussions with police will focus on helmet enforcement. Offenders will not be fined immediately but will be asked to wait at the station for at least an hour as a deterrent.

Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin noted that road traffic accidents cause an average of 18,000 deaths, over 10,000 disabilities, and more than 1 million injuries annually, with economic losses exceeding 6 billion baht per year. The Ministry of Public Health plans to improve emergency medical systems and establish 24 occupational health clinics by 2025 to assess drivers' fitness to drive.

Where was this reported or is it something that you made up? 

 

It will terrify the foreigners riding their motorbike helmet less on Soi Buakhou. 

 

I was sitting on Soi Buakhou yesterday afternoon having a few beers with my mate in one of the bars. 

It's hilarious to see the many middle aged and elderly foreigners riding their Clicks and Scoopy's up and down soi Buakhou, most without helmets, lots of them grey hair or balding, the girls yelling at them for a drink, making these guys still thinking their in their youth. 😂

A mate had his bicycle stolen. Police said for Bt5000 they would "investigate."

Then they're complete morons. If I go less than a kilometre to local shop I put on my full Face HJC helmet AND motorcycle gloves. Takes 30 seconds - an accident just as likely to occur at the bottom of your own road.

Wonder if the govt does decide to do this, how many police will have to be out as more than half would be just going back and forth from their patrol area and the police station to escort folks breaking this law.

So another sign failure then the 100% helmets in the village or school arent working along with so many other signs they put up and think will be obeyed

25 odd years ago, when the police stopped on the spot fines and started issuing tickets in my town, the procedure was that your bike was kept, you had to go to the station, pay the fine and return with the receipt to get your bike released. Could take well over an hour and involve motorcycle taxi fares depending on where you were pulled over. That never seemed to make them wear helmets.
