Body of Monk Found Under Mysterious Circumstances at Bangkok Temple
A monk has been found dead under suspicious circumstances at a well-known temple in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district. Authorities were alerted by a strong odour emanating from the monk’s living quarters at Wat Sra Bua, located in Rong Mueang Subdistrict, where the body was discovered early on the morning of November 13. Emergency responders forced entry into the monk’s room and found the lifeless body lying face-up on the floor. A yellow towel was tightly wrapped around his neck, and a drinking straw was lodged in his mouth, raising questions about the circumstances of his death. Police noted that the room had been locked from the outside, suggesting possible foul play. The deceased monk, identified as Phra Sunan Phumjampa, age 63, is believed to have passed away approximately two days prior to the discovery. Forensic teams have taken the body to the Police General Hospital for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death. Police Captain Chatupong Artharn, who is leading the investigation, reported that Phra Sunan’s son, known to be struggling with drug addiction, had visited him just days before the body was discovered. Neighbours reportedly last saw the monk about six days ago, though he was frequently visited by his youngest son, who has a history of substance abuse. A nearby monk, Phra Charoen, stated that he heard a loud noise coming from Phra Sunan’s room six days prior. After failing to see him in the days that followed and noticing a foul odour, he alerted the authorities. Phra Charoen also noted that Phra Sunan had three children, two daughters, one residing overseas and the other in Phuket, and a son who regularly visited him at the temple. Authorities are treating the case as suspicious and have taken Phra Sunan’s son, along with Phra Charoen, to Pathumwan Police Station for questioning. Investigators aim to determine if Phra Sunan’s death may be connected to recent events involving his family members. Police have handed over Phra Sunan’s body to the Ruamkatanyu Foundation for transport to the Police General Hospital, where forensic specialists will conduct a detailed examination. TRD changed one simple rule regarding remittances, the implications of the change are that foreign tax resident no longer have a loop hole through which to avoid Thai tax on remittances. The rule change was widely broadcast and is simple enough to understand, even for dullards and those people who are not tax savvy. Put yourself in TRDs shoes, what more can you reasonably expect TRD to feel the need to do. What justification is there for TRD to pander to the anxieties and insecurities of the foreign community? The Revenue rules are there, in English and there's lots of ways you can get assistance with tax. International and local tax consultants operate here and English is widely spoken. 100's of 1000's of foreigners may not have paid Thai tax before but they know what tax is and they've certainly paid it in their home country, this is not something that is uniquely Thai that they've never heard of before. Many foreigners were required to file tax returns before the rule change but didn't, because they didn't think it applied to them! Now, many more foreigners are required to file tax returns, I'm pretty certain that fewer people will ignore the need this time around!! The private sector picked up on the potential for increased tax consultancy fees and has marketed their tax advisory services by providing tax information, aggressively....social media is awash with information on the subject. What exactly could TRD do to reinforce the message that they're serious about this, perhaps take out half page ads in the Bangkok Post saying, we're not joking! No, this is your problem, not the TRD's. If you're expecting a last minute change of heart or for this whole business to go silent and die a death, you are grasping at straws. And those people who are waiting for personalised letters to appear in the mail giving individual instructions regarding what to do, well, words fail me on this point. -

Panic as Ammonia Gas Leak Sends 18 Employees to Hospital in Pattani
A hazardous ammonia gas leak at an ice manufacturing plant in Pattani has left 18 employees hospitalised after they inhaled the toxic fumes. The leak, which occurred early morning on November 13, caused widespread panic and prompted immediate evacuation efforts. At around 09:00, Pol. Col. Jeffrey Silaimanakul, the Chief of Pattani City Police, received reports of the gas leak at the Sofar Ice Factory, located in Talubo Subdistrict, Mueang Pattani District. The ammonia fumes quickly spread across the area, overwhelming the workers inside the building. Responding to the emergency, local authorities, including the police, administrative officers, and fire fighters, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the ammonia gas leaking extensively from the factory’s storage tanks. Firefighters deployed fire trucks to spray water currents in an effort to dilute the gas and prevent it from dispersing further into the air. Simultaneously, emergency teams wearing breathing apparatus entered the building to close the gas valve and stop the leak. While efforts to control the leak were underway, numerous workers began showing symptoms of ammonia poisoning, including dizziness, difficulty breathing, eye irritation, and in some cases, vomiting. The authorities quickly coordinated with rescue teams from Pattani City, Talubo, Rusamilae, and the Pattani Provincial Disaster Rescue Service. Ten ambulances were dispatched to transport the affected workers to Pattani Hospital for medical treatment. According to workers at the factory, the incident occurred while employees were inspecting the ammonia gas storage area. During the inspection, a metal object fell onto the gas pipeline, causing it to rupture and release a large amount of ammonia into the building. Workers immediately fled the building to escape the fumes and alerted authorities. Following the incident, Pattani Governor Patima Sadiyamu visited the site and established an emergency operations centre to manage the crisis and ensure public safety. The authorities used loudspeakers to instruct nearby residents to stay clear of the affected area. Local schools and childcare centres were temporarily closed as a precaution, and parents quickly arrived to pick up their children. The Governor also instructed public health officials and medical teams at Pattani Hospital to conduct thorough checks on the health of residents in the surrounding area.
