In a significant development, former actor Rattapoom Tokongsup has officially resigned from Thailand's Palang Pracharath party. The resignation, effective from November 15, follows his alleged involvement in a high-profile extortion case. Paiboon Nititawan, the party’s secretary-general, confirmed today that Rattapoom stepped down last Friday, with his name subsequently removed from the party's membership list.

The case, according to Paiboon, is a personal matter for Rattapoom and unrelated to party affairs. This case has stirred conversation and controversy, particularly given the profile of the accused and the nature of the crime.

The extortion case involves another suspect, Krit-anong Suwannawong, who appeared in court today. She faces allegations alongside Rattapoom for demanding approximately 20 million baht from an iCon Group executive, known as “Pancharat”. The extortion was purportedly to secure an appearance on a prominent talk show. Krit-anong also reportedly extorted 750,000 baht from the iCon Group’s CEO, Waratphol Waratvorakul.

Krit-anong, expressing her concerns and pleading for fair treatment, took to Facebook last night. She emphasised her intention to face the allegations while asking for leniency regarding her children's social treatment amid the scandal. She strongly denies all charges, a sentiment echoed by Pol Maj-Gen Suwat Saengnoom of the Central Investigation Bureau.

With Rattapoom's political ties severed, this development marks a turning point in the ongoing investigation, attracting significant media attention and public interest.
