A 41-year-old crane operator was found dead in the cab, approximately 25 metres above the ground at a construction site in Bang Sai District, Ayutthaya. The discovery was made after coworkers noticed he hadn’t come down for lunch or dinner.

The incident occurred on the evening of November 19. Police Lieutenant Saknarit Rattanaphan from the Bang Sai Police Station was alerted to the scene, along with emergency responders from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

At the site, a crane stood within a warehouse construction project in Khok Chang Subdistrict. The lifeless body of the crane operator, identified as Mr. Suriya Makoon, was found inside the control cab. He was dressed in a red t-shirt, with for some reason, his pants lowered to his knees.

Coworkers reported that Mr. Suriya had climbed the crane early in the morning to begin his shift. However, when the work was completed by afternoon, he failed to descend. Concerned, they climbed up to check on him and discovered his lifeless body, prompting an immediate call to authorities.

Mr. Suriya’s wife, Ms. Nanthnaphas, also 41, shared that her husband commuted from their home in Bangkok’s Rama IX area to work at the site. She stated that he had no known underlying health conditions but had recently been in a motorcycle accident on a slippery road, which caused minor injuries to his chest and head. He had been wearing a helmet at the time.

Retrieving the body posed significant challenges due to the height of the crane. Rescue teams from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation used specialised rope (line) rescue equipment to lower the body safely in a stretcher.

Preliminary investigations showed no signs of foul play or physical assault. The body has been sent to the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
