Question about CR crossings to Laos for Visa Exemptions

Greetings, so as I and quite a few people have said was not able to get visa extended for my dad (because of touching the money in 3 months). 

 

Alright, so I wanted to ask a few questions as I have very limited time to actually do this border crossing. As far as I know there are 2 border crossings in Chiang Rai (that are not too far away from me), we stay in Phayao. 

There is a crossing in Chiang Saen - by boat (think 150 baht) if not mistaken. 

There is a crossing in Chiang Kong - by bridge if not mistaken. 

 

So, the questions I have: 

1, How long does a person need to stay there before coming back for a stamp? (First it was straight away, then recently my friend said it is 1 day in Chiang Saen), someone here says it is 2 days in Chiang Kong.  Can someone clarify how many days a person has to stay in Chiang Saen and Chiang Kong especially if it is different.  I am busy with work, so it is difficult to find time, but I am trying my best.  I am hoping that one night is still possible in at least one of these places, some say can ask the border crossing staff (maybe).

 

2. Are they open 7 days a week? I was planning to go on Friday and if it one night then comeback on Saturday, is it going to be possible to cross on weekend and get a stamp? If there are 2 days that would be Sunday. 

 

3. Lastly, what kind of things are around there in terms of hotels, restaurants, convenience stores, not important for me but for my dad yes.

I think flying out if not only a tad more complicated but also more expensive especially during this time of the year. The plan was to get this exemption stamp and convert it to retirement visa again and be careful with money next time. I won't be able to fly with him to help him, if the border is crossed my wife could help with that.  Also isn't flying out and then flying in going to give you a tourist visa on arrival? Can that be converted to retirement?

Flying in would give exactly the same on entry as a land entry.  A 60 day visa exempt entry.

He will get 60 day visa exempt whether entering by land or air.  There is no visa on arrival if your country qualifies for visa exemption.  There is no advantage to a visa on arrival anyway--the visa exempt entry can be converted to a retirement visa.

I need to check on that, he holds Lithuanian passport and I think there is a visa on arrival, at least there was.

Lithuania is visa exempt 60 days.

   The visa on arrival office at Chiang Kong is closed , derelict , I don't know whether there is anywhere else that there can issue a VoA there .

   Check before you go .

  Edit : You can get a Visa exempt stamp (as above), which is different to a VoA

   Make sure that he has a flight out of Thailand within 60 days , a Thai rental contract and 10 000 Baht , those the the requirement to be allowed back in to Thailand again , and they are enforced

why is it so random? I just talked to a friend I didn’t see in a while, he did this a month ago and was asked nothing on the way back except for what is the reason for coming to which he replied crossing. 
 

For rental contract what if he lives with me and my wife in the same house? 
 

also for 10k would passbook will be enough?

   It seems to be a new rule . I did the visa run on Monday and they wouldn't let me back into Thailand again on Wednesday because I didn't have the required documents  and they told me to go back to Laos .

No. If they ask to see money, it has to be on your person, it can't be in the bank.
