snoop1130 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Boozy blunder: Tipsy pedestrian struck by British biker in Pattaya A tipsy walk turned into a harrowing accident in Pattaya when a 53 year old British biker collided with a drunk pedestrian, leaving the latter injured and sprawled on Jomtien Second Road. The incident unfolded at 9.40pm yesterday, November 26 near the bustling Rompho Market. The Sawang Boriboon Rescue Centre promptly dispatched a team to the scene alongside reporters from The Pattaya News. Rescuers discovered the victim, identified as 45 year old Surat, face down on the road in a red T-shirt and black trousers. He had sustained head injuries and body abrasions. Emergency workers stabilised him at the scene before whisking him to a nearby hospital. Nearby lay the British rider’s damaged Kawasaki Z900 motorcycle, a sleek red-and-black big bike. Its rider, Holmes, emerged with only minor abrasions and chose not to provide a statement at the scene. Witnesses painted a vivid picture of the incident. According to bystanders, Surat appeared heavily intoxicated and had staggered onto the road directly in the motorcycle’s path. The collision, they claimed, was unavoidable. As of press time, local police are combing through CCTV footage to piece together the full story. Holmes remains under investigation, though witnesses suggest the fault lies with the victim’s inebriated antics, reported Pattaya News. You'll find some way to extort some tea money out of 'im! I'm sure the Anti-Brit Bigots will come up with a few ideas to blame the rider just for being British... That said - he was pretty dumb to be riding around without gloves, jacket, decent footwear etc - but if only riding at the same speeds as all the other scooter riders etc then he's at no different risk of injury himself than anyone else. That said - anyone riding a scooter will be better of with a jacket. I will not hit a main road on my scooter without gloves, jacket, boots, full face helmet - some may think thats overkill, others think getting on a motorcycle is a death wish... our risk profiles and tolerances for risk clearly all vary. 7 1 1 3 2 1 3

Drugs, alcohol. what speed was he going? What is the need for a big bike unless you want to speed? Did he have a license? When riding or driving where there are pedestrians I always slow down so I have enough time to stop. Children are unpredictable. You can’t be too safe on the roads. Speed kills and is responsible for most road deaths. 4 8 1 7 2

Jacket and gloves is a bit too much for me (though you are of course right). I drive a PCX with full-face certified helmet, jeans, sneakers and t-shirt. I'm aware that I could hurt myself in the event of an accident, but that's my perfect risk/driving pleasure ratio. 1 2 1

Perhaps he looked at the drunk pedestrian and, quite reasonably, decided that making a statement wasn't worth his time as he'd never be able to recoup anything from Mr Surat? That would probably be my approach in similar circumstances. 6

I haven't read the 'deport him' comment yet. Calm down, nobody mentioned deporting. It was an accident, deportations are for people with bad intentions. Anyway, I would like to thank you for always leaping to our defence. As a fellow Brit it is reassuring to know that if I start a drunken fight, if I run over a local, if I get arrested for anything that you will be there defending me tooth and nail and heaping blame and doubt on the other parties. Our embassy might leave us for dead, but Richard will always be there for the British expats and tourists in Thailand. If I ever have the pleasure to meet you in person I will buy you ten beers. If you keep it up I will start a gofundme to raise funds for a bronze statue of you where fellow Brits can visit and make merit. Thanks mate. 6

They will be occurring in the middle of the peak season and all the way through high season , if that seems like great planning to you, fine. It might be asked , were improvements needed, and will they really be improvements when complete? That said, my comment was that it was currently a mess, not about the timing of the work!

Agree, he could easily have broken an ankle, and he wouldn't be riding a Big Bike again, we could then see him hobbling around like the many other Thai's who thought they were invincible. I lost count of how many people I see with this same injury, they never seem to smarten up. 1 2
