I bought one of these also, the granny charger that came with the BYD wouldn’t work on a socket without earth protection which was the case at the mil’s house.

So faster charging and overcame the “ no earth “ issue.

To avoid the risk of a no earth problem, you're better buying this one as you know it's fine.

Those prices are a bit eye watering.  How long do you plan on living here, as thought it was just a for years.  If 3 or 4 yrs, you're talking 10k a year, just to be able to charge your car.   Didn't even pay for electric yet, which is minimal.

If using slow charger that comes with car, 9-ish hours over night (2100-0600), that should be about 20kWh, and would get our car (46.3kWh usable) about 150 kms a day.  Are you really going to drive that much or more everyday, as if doing 6 days a week, that's 47k kms a year.

All should be able to be done, simply overnight on slow emergency / granny charging cable.  If you catch yourself short, you can always pop into a charging station for 30-45 mins to top up, while doing something in the area, or just chilling and having a coffee & Danish.

My head is definitely spinning mate! Probably just my over thinking nature…..

went again today and saw the atto3 and the M6. Wife asked for us to test drive and wife and kids loved it but to me it seems less….nice. More room but the driver seat is lower and doesn’t feel so premium.

good things I guess is the 7 seater and bigger battery means more km but everything in be read puts the atto3 as a better car?

current offer means both are same price. But in thinking the atto3 is a better option because it’s a better car?
thoughts?

I went to see Deepal S07, i love the interior, but BYD Sealion 7 looks  interesting and online research shows it's better in many ways. I can still use the car if they really want to tax world wide income and I dont stay here year long.

hi, sorry I’m very ignorant but would this work on my normal socket? What do I need to look out for? What are the amps it can handle safely and how much can it output in terms of kws

I see so many I want to understand if I buy how can I use safely and how is it better than the one that comes with the car?

Provide the Lazada weblink so we can go to that Lazada item and review it's specs/details.

The one that comes with the car is fixed at 10amps and if you use in a socket with no earth wire it will not work. ( you might find at some resort or a relatives house there’s no earth present ).

The one i used as an example is adjustable up to 16 amps and can work with or without an earth.

Both can be used in a standard socket you find in your home for example.

The one you have posted goes up to 32 amps so obviously will charge faster but o am not sure if you need to make some adjustments ( increase cable or breaker size for example ) to enable this to work, other posters will be able to answer this .

Can someone link one that would work SAFELY and will improve speed compared to the one supplied by byd.

I found an identical one in Lazada based on the images you posted above.  From review of the specs it should work find and you can adjust the max amperage down from 32A  to lower amperages such as 16A, 13A, 10A, or 8A if needed because you only have a 16A (or less) household socket outlet.     You would need to ensure it comes with that 32A to 16A household socket adapter shown in the picture you to use it in a household socket.

And if you had adequate electric service/wiring you can also use it at 32A/7KW.

To determine max power output/draw just use the formula of P (power) = I (current) times E (voltage)....easily remembered as the "PIE" (i.e., like you eat) formula..  Examples: 32A times 220V = 7,040 watts (7KW).....13A times 220V = 2,860W ((2.9KW), etc...etc....etc.

Here is a link Taysla เครื่องชาร์จ3.5KW EV 16A เครื่องชาร์จไฟรถยนต์ชนิด2สายชาร์จชนิด1 16A j1772 evse 80V-260V สำหรับยานพาหนะไฟฟ้า | Lazada.co.th choose the Type 2 option.

This will work on your existing socket where you park your car and will charge at about 3.5Kw on the 16 amp setting.

Your house appears to have a good electrical installation, you shouldn't have any problem.

You can select 8, 10, 13 or 16 amps, the highest setting is 60% faster than the supplied charger.

If you have a breaker trip (unlikely) or you feel uncomfortable, knock the current down to 13 amp which is 30% faster than the supplied charger.  However, it should be perfectly OK at 16 amps, that's what the socket is rated at.

That would knock off a couple hours, from our usual charging time.  Since having solar, and on crap day, charging window isn't that long some times, if at all.

Usually plug in around 85% on overcast/cloudy weeks.

Considerably difference on a full day of charging w/Solar, and an extra 10kWh supplied.  60% of capacity vs 40%

I did it, I put the deposit down for the atto3 extended.

now I have to hand in all the paperwork for financing and see if it goes through - might actually do that after the Xmas holidays as I’m off to Europe for 3 weeks.

I can get everything easily except for the residence certificate. Apparently I need to go to the immigration office. Does anyone know if this is a one day job or a long waiting time?

I know my embassy can do it quick but not sure they will accept the residence certificate from my embassy?

included is ceramic film, whatever that is….anything I need to know?

Also please if you can share what might happen next so I know all steps…..

hand papers for financing, if accepted what happens? Downpayment on car delivery? Get car with red plate (dealer says I pay 3000 and get that back)

they register car and then swap plates….will they pay car tax and insurance and add those stickers or how does it work?

thank you! Excited but waiting to see if finance goes through.

Ceramic film do I need to tell them anything?
Im gonna buy the lazada charger, read quite a bit and a few scare stories of being careful at 16amp if it gets too hot or your house wiring can’t handle it etc etc but I guess I’ll be careful and see how it goes.

i have a 7-11 next door to my Moobaan and it has a fast charger so guess can always pop over there. Going to try and see and if not convenient then I’ll speak to landlord and see if I spend the 25/35k but for the next months or so going to give it a go.

THNAKS!

Don't think you can get any more convenient than that.  I'd definitely skip the wall charger installation.  ฿25k, that's a lot of kWh @ ~฿8 per.

That's about 22k kms, over what you'd be charging daily, overnight, w/ granny cable.

฿25k ÷ ฿8 = 3,125kWh ÷ 14 (kWh/100 kms) = 223.21 X 100 = 22,300 kms

Depends on your servicing immigration office....varies from office to office.   Some will provide within a hour or so, some mail it to you a week or two later, some offer you the choice of getting it same day or having it mailed to you.  Some charge Bt500...some charge a couple hundred baht.  All depends on your serving immigration office.   My servicing immigration office which is the BOI/Chamchuri Square Immigration Office in Bangkok only provide it one way: within one hour and at a charge of Bt500.

Edit: Just remembered the resident certificate will state it's only good for 30 days....so don't get it too early.

They are talking ceramic film for the windows.  If you want the film you need to decide how dark you want the film on each window  Some people like really dark film (blocks a lot of light) and  some like film that don't block too much light.  Block too much light and it can be hard to see at night.  A lot of people go with 40-50% on the windshield, 60% on front seats windows, 80% on back seat windows, hatchback window and skylight.

The 3,000 baht will be refund by BYD after you take possession of the car....they do a bank transfer at the end of the month if you accept the car by the 15th of the month.

Can speak to when you make a partial payment since you said you are financing as I paid cash for my Atto.

BYD takes car of the registration, insurance and tax sticker....you don't need to do nothing.  When the ownership book (a.k.a., blue book) and white plate are provided from DLT to BYD you just go back to the dealership to pickup the book and the dealership swaps the red plates for the white plates.

Embassy 'should' do that on the day (depending on the Embassy if they do it at all)

Immigration may do it on the day (for a fee) or make you wait 2 weeks  - depends on the office.

DLT will accept either.

It all works itself out - nothing you need to do.

You mean ceramic coating (on the body itself) - if paying extra not needed. If they are including it, then no worries.

If you mean ceramic film (for windows) - then as about, don't go too dark (Thai's love dark film which makes driving at night hazardous).

Congratulations Yodarapper, you’ll be very happy with it.

I chose 40% cut 60% transmissible window film on my car.

Try charging with your Lazada charger at 16 amps, if you think it’s getting too hot, just knock it down to 13 amps.

Another point on the tint...  IF the car has a panoramic roof - go for the darkest tint on that !!!

(and yes you can mix and match tints)...

We've gone for the lightest we were offered on the windscreen.

Slightly darker on the sides and back.

As dark as possible on the pano-roof.

Does anyone know if a residence certificate from my embassy will do for the documents required for applying for finance or does it have to be from immigration??

You can get chargers that look like a granny charger but are fitted with a 32 amp industrial single phase plug, they charge at exactly the same speed as the fastest single phase wall box (7.4Kw at 230v).  All that's then needed is for an electrician to fit a 40amp breaker in the OP's consumer circuit breaker panel and cable it to a 32 amp socket where he parks his car.

For the OP who rents and may at some point move houses, it's a better option for him because he can take it with him (you can put a screw in the wall and hook it on the wall and it's then a portable wall box).  It's also much cheaper.

Below is a partial quote of my earlier post (a few posts up) with a film recommendation as to the percent of light blockage.  It's what I went with. HOWEVER if I had it to do over I would go with 40 or 50% on windshield like I have now, 80% on the skylight like I have now, but 60% on all remaining windows where I currently have 80% as the outside would look a little brighter during the day and nighttime viewing would be significantly better.

The dealership can show you small sample strips/samples of various film light transmittance levels which you can look thru to see what suits "you best.   Recommend you view theses samples in a "not too bright" area so you get a feel of how dark it would look at night also...or even take the film strips to a dark/dimly lit area and look thru them.  The dealership. could also possibly have some vehicles which already have film on them of a certain percentage to give you a better feel.

Hi hope someone can explain a couple electric questions ?

1. When thais talk about a 2nd circuit what exactly does this mean?  A line from your existing breaker box to the wall box?  {wouldn't every install require this}

or a line from the meter to a breaker box to the wall box?

2. My 15/45 meter has 16 sqm running from meter to my breaker box i assume to get a 30/100 meter this would need upgrading ?

1. Yes, they are talking a line from a 2nd meter.   If you can get a 2nd 15 (45)A meter it would need a copper 16mm2 line from the meter to a home breaker box.   From the home breaker box to the charger 10mm2 copper wire is required.

2.  Yes.  To upgrade to 100A service you would typically need copper 35mm2 wire running from the 30(100)A meter to the home main box assuming the wire running to your circuit box is via underground conduit.    NOTE: Now, if the wire running from the meter to  your home breaker box is "above ground" and "also not running  thru any wall conduit" on it's way to your breaker box  I think copper 25mm2 is then allowed if you use an 80A main breaker...but if using a 100A main breaker then it's back up to 35mm2 being required.   There are other possible wire size combinations from the meter to the circuit box depending on the size of "main" breaker installed in your breaker box.   But for a typical installation wire size requirement for 100A service from meter to home is 35mm2 copper wire.
