Same as the  Indian giver Brits gave the "terra nullius never never land" to the original first inhabitants! Go figure that out! 🥺

I thought this forum required posts be in English.

Does anyone here know any falang who has won "real" (not a few hundred or thousand baht, or even 100,000) money in the Thai lottery - and received every satang of it minus the mandatory tax/processing fee etc.?

What would you do if you discovered you have the winning ticket to, say, 6 or 12 million baht?

Personally, I'd probably first upload a Youtube video of me holding it (not necessarily making it public, just to have it as evidence), then I'd go to a (trusted) lawyer and maybe only then start the claim with the lottery office. Or would this be overly paranoid? Would you just go to the lottery office or where the official place is to claim your prize without any precautions?

As clear cut as the law seems to be on this (i.e. falang being allowed to win/claim), part of me always thinks that somehow "they" would try to f__k a  out of  foreigner out of or all of it.

For goggles, let's both example of a happily married (with a Thai) falang, and a married falang who doesn't quite trust the wife with such an amount, and totally single/unattached falang.

What would you do?

We are still awaiting a 6 million baht win to pay off the house and replace the 20+ old cars. After that, a continued working middle class retirement here in Thailand (barring tax law changes).

Not won in 13 years of doing the Thai lottery. You can claim winnings at certain banks now , the lottery office in bkk and I'm guessing if you buy it online from government site they will credit your account with winnings .

As said for the cost of tickets Vs prizes it is one of the worst lotteries going . Would like to know where all the cash made from it goes 🤔

. Would like to know where all the cash made from it goes ...Go on " Have a Guess "

We play every draw...usually 2 tickets. Have won B2000 a few times, but last win was many years ago now. If we won B6 or B12 million...would just give it to my wife. I/we don't need it, but wife's family would certainly benefit from it. She would build a small house in her home town too. I could easily build a nice house there, but I flat-out refuse as I find nothing appealing in Surin other than her elderly and wonderful parents and their dog. We just got back home from 12 nights there...and that was more than enough for another half year. 🤣

When I lived in Lanna, I won twice on our local "mafia" lottery, 30,000 baht on each occasion. For me, these were big wins compared to the 2,000 and 4,000 baht wins I received on the official Thai Government lottery. Our local lottery was based on the same winning numbers in the official lottery, the difference being "odds" on how much you placed on your numbers - anything from 1 baht to 100 baht (in my case), even up to 500 and 1000 baht! The more you bet, the bigger the winnings.

I won 2000 baht the vendor won’t cash it, I went to the BAAC bank commonly known as the Farmers Bank, they said only Thai people can get money from lottery winning tickets.

I'd scan the lottery ticket and then my wife and I would go to a police station to do a "bunteuk prajumwan" about the win. Then we'd go to the Lottery Department wherever that is and my Thai wife would collect the money without any photographs. I don't want to risk someone saying that foreigners can't win the lottery. I would pay tax as required.

We would not tell anyone that we had won the lottery. We would spend the money slowly so as not to attract attention, and if anyone asked where we got the money for this and that, we'd say that it came from my savings abroad. You never tell people you've won the lottery.

By the way, in my case, there is no need to divide up the winnings 50:50 with my Thai wife. She isn't a former bargirl.

Silly me, I should've remembered before posting how the citizenry of this place dutifully follow the laws of this wonderfully lawful society.

Gee, just this morning I TOTALLY didn't see my Thai neighbor law dump 2 tons of trash in the TOTALLY lawfully designated landfill in the middle of the forest in his TOTALLY legally plated, TOTALLY insured pickup which he's TOTALLY licensed to drive and TOTALLY never drives drunk off his azz. 😁

I TOTALLY don't see any of this type of unlawful behavior from morning till evening, every single day.

I don't think your thai neighbor runs the Lottery department

Not in my experience when living up north in Phayao and Khon Kaen Provinces. I used to cash my winning Thai Government Lottery tickets at the local gold shops - for a small fee! (20 baht for 2,000 baht and 40 baht for 4,000 baht). Never any problems for this UK farang.
