Success has obviously gone to Trump's head and made him doolally if he thinks they will let the hostages go because he says so.

Those people don't care about the west except to hate us.

Also, they know that the only thing likely stopping israel going full armageddon on Gaza are the hostages.

The only way any are getting out alive is a permanent ceasefire, and israel getting out of Gaza and letting aid in.

It's interesting that the latest "initiatives" never involve Hamas or Hezbollah, as if they don't exist. Eg the "ceasefire" agreement with Lebanon didn't involve Hezbollah, just the incompetent, corrupt and useless Lebanese government.

Speaking up for the murderous terrorists then, no surprise there from you, a common theme in all your posts. Maybe you'd prefer Trump to invite them all to Mar-a-Lago for a lavish evening meal to discuss things like gentlemen..........

I don't read twit thing, but if Trump starts another war in the M E he is an idiot. No war the US has been involved in in the M E has turned out well for the US.

There are a few defence contractors who might disagree with you.

Hamas are in talks about releasing the USA hostages .

Why was the deadline that Donald gave them to release the USA hostages ?

WSJ: Hamas agrees to IDF troops temporarily staying in Gaza in hostage-ceasefire deal

"According to the Wall Street Journal, the two sides are considering a 60-day ceasefire in which up to 30 hostages — including US citizens — would be released."

The Israelis have been bombing Gaza for more than year and still bomb Gaza every day. So Does trump mean he's going to make the rubble bounce or indiscriminately kill more civilians?

I had understood that it is illegal for a President Elect to negotiate with foreign entities prior to taking the Oath of Office?

Can you state where he has or plans to negotiate directly himself? Why not look up who his hostage envoy is and what he's said on the matter?

Agreed. I think he's talking about the kind of "war" that will be over and done with in 10 minutes.

People reporting to trump, but not yet confirmed in their positions are negotiating. Under the Logan Act my understanding it is illegal for private individuals to negotiate with foreign governments / entities. i.e. One President at a time" during the transition period.

Then better quickly put a stop to this, we wouldn't want the hostages released because of the Logan Act now would we. Can you link to this specifically and how that would indeed stop this humanitarian effort?

Trump is the MAN! Not even inaugurated and in effect the POTUS already. Given that Biden is out to lunch and Harris has apparently vanished, someone has to do the job. World events don't go on hiatus just because there is a transition period in the US. Normally the current POTUS is still functioning, but, well we all know why Biden isn't doing much. Never has dead duck been a more appropriate description.

You might have a point if Biden wasn't in Lala Land. The rules also state that a POTUS has to be a functioning adult or removed, and if they don't they should.

Biden has not been declared as unable to fulfil his official fun functions, if he were, Kamala Harris would then be President until trump is sworn in.

No, trump isn't the 'man' until he's sworn in.

There is no guarantee whatsoever that trump can positively contribute to the release of hostages in Gaza prior to his confirmation. . IMO it is not constructive to have two US separate political parties attempting to negotiate, just muddies the waters. However, let's see what happens in the coming month. Maybe Netanyahu has a secret agreement with trump to agree a hostage release deal just after his inauguration.

I'm pretty sure that is the reason Biden is still POTUS. No one wants Harris as POTUS, IMO.

Of course there is no guarantee, its about hope and if any intervention helps in that direction it should be applauded. Can you quote where Trump officials have attempted to have direct talks? Have you actually read the links provided? Did you research what trumps hostage envoy said?

That wasn't what I meant. It's like when people say to someone  "you're the MAN". Nothing to do with being POTUS.

Apparently that is what happened with Carter. The Iranians waited till his successor was installed to release the US embassy staff.
