Do you have names in particular ?

I rather name western european countries where autokrats (or future autokrats)) have gained massively in the recent past (worldwide the list would be too long): Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Kroatia, Germany, France.

All riding on a wave of support by "the little people".

It seems many of those little people are angry. And they want strong-men solutions like getting rid of all those bad immigrants who only take their jobs. It does not really matter if that is true or not, if they are angry, they don't think too much and vote for easy solutions.

Where does the anger come from? Maybe the endless parliamentary discussions that produce nothing but "compromises" that do not adress/rectify current problems concerning little people. Getting the impression, that whatever "the government" legislates, it's in favor of the upper 5% of a society.

To some, the China/Russia syndrome might be tempting. With a stroke of a pen arising problems can be adressed/rectified, without parliamentary discussions that can last for years. Tempting for many.

Humans prefer easy solutions over complicated ones. Can be bliss or curse. Only hindsight can tell. Unfortunately.

Don't they know that the dismantling of any Social Security Concept is high on their agenda? Their gospel as far as this is concernd is: "Let them eat s*hit and let them die".

Some little people have to work 3 jobs to stay alive. But of course, all of this is just "self inflicted defeatism".

Most of that has been the reward from recent socialist regimes in many western "developed" economies.

Captain Obvious says:

Although Stockholm syndrome is frequently referenced in hostage scenarios, it can also apply to abusive relationships such as you describe.

Stockholm syndrome - Wikipedia

Stockholm Syndrome has nothing to do with voting in elections.  In fact, if you read the Wiki entry to which you linked, Stockholm Syndrome may not even be a real syndrome.  Basically, the response by the hostages in Sweden in 1973 was very specific to the situation in the Stockholm bank and has rarely been observed elsewhere since then.

Good post.

I think the anger is often fired up by some politicians who want angry people not to think too much. And it obviously works.

Remember the George Carlin quip:

"Think of how dumb the average person is. Now think half the people are dumber than that."

The people who missed out on the Biden Booming Economy are not going to be helped by massive tariffs, nor cutbacks in programs that supplement their income (which DOGE will slash). 47 has absolutely no solution, not even the 'concept of a plan' to address the redundancy in unskilled human labor. It is only going to get worse as AI comes online.

Perhaps a cult member has inside info on "a plan we'll be releasing in two weeks; some people are saying it's the most amazing plan they've ever seen". (Anyone who has listened to 45/47 knows this silly, albeit regularly issued line.)

That brings another quote to my mind, I don't know who said it first.

There is an easy solution for every complex problem. And most of the time it is wrong.

Interesting.

The right are great with fear mongering and simple slogans that are popular with the dumb or uneducated.

Actual policies are too difficult for most people to comprehend so the rights slogans cut through better.

It would be undemocratic, but a better system would be to make people sit a test to prove they can understand policy.

The dumb masses used to vote more left than right, against “big business greed” but the right have thrown LGBTQIA, immigration and other topics in to win over the dumb masses.

They outsmarted the left. Not with good policy, but with vote winning tactics

You must be joking.

Right wing fear mongering?!?  Who was bleating on and on about Hitler and fascism and no more democracy for the entire election in the US? Then, who suddenly changed their tune and went back to business as usual and "congratulations to President Elect Trump" afterwards?  It was all BS, designed purely for the election cycle.

So everyone is dumb that doesn't think like you, Or is everyone just dumb?

You're not US national so I'll clue you in. The US Congress over the past decades has robbed social security it was never in a great position being a paygo institution anyway. Estimates are 2037 or before there will need to be severe cuts made in social security. Voting to preserve the status quo is voting to preserve the breakdown. Is absolutely no way that social security can be taken away from the American people. The question becomes how to equitably distribute what is there and how to perhaps find new ways to find the programs is the answer.

For myself I knew the system would go tits up and therefore got out as soon as I possibly could paying as little into the system as possible

You really shouldn't be commenting and making judgments on things that you don't know anything about tbh.

The crack about executioners is out of line especially with an I'll fated war in Ukraine and US allowing Israel to unalive nearly 50k little people in Palestine

Problem is, that those modern day "Ceasars" want to do away with democracy.

Who is it that you have in mind that wants to "do away with democracy" and has stated that as an intention?

Yes, in so many of those cases, it probably is.
