Tragedy struck in Mae Ramat District, Tak Province, when a wild elephant in musth fatally attacked a villager in the Khun Huay Khimo forest, located near Ban Huay Krathing.

On December 7, local authorities reported that a villager from Ban Huay Krathing, Mae Tuen Subdistrict, Mae Ramat District, was killed by a wild elephant in the forest. Witnesses alerted the village headman and local officials about the incident, which was subsequently reported to Mr. Parinya Sairoj, the District Chief of Mae Ramat.

Upon receiving the report, Mr. Parinya directed Mr. Phadungsit Thanboon, the deputy district officer responsible for Mae Tuen Subdistrict, to coordinate with local leaders, including the headmen of Village 12 and Village 6, as well as their deputies and village assistants. Together, they led a team to the scene of the incident.

At the location, the team found that the wild elephant had killed a villager identified as Mr. Khodhi, 50 years old, a resident of Mae Tuen Subdistrict. The body was discovered in the forest where the attack occurred. Authorities ordered the area secured, prohibiting anyone from moving the body until proper procedures were followed.

Local police from Mae Ramat Police Station were informed, and investigators conducted an on-site forensic examination. The case will proceed according to legal protocols.

The incident has raised concerns about human-wildlife conflict in the area, emphasising the need for measures to mitigate risks and protect both residents and wildlife.

Maybe they need to stop taking over the elephants land. They should also know, now a days, that when Elephants are in musth they are very dangerous and unpredictable. RIP
